At the moment I'm still interested, I'd like to see what it spectros at first. If it's 483-486, or 492-498, I'm all in. Otherwise I'll pass on it. No need for me to have two right in the same color range

Disregard the above. 490 may be done. I'll surely want it :cryyy:

This is terrible. I was expecting to see it sometime to measure its WL. I hope you are able to get another one. RIP :(

Can't wait for the results!
Sorry for the lack of updates lately, I have been in spotty internet for the last 4 days or so, but it appears Paul has the diode now, and we're eagerly awaiting results!

I will get it pressed and take measurements this weekend. I'll post them here ASAP. :yh:

I've never seen so much activity in the blue and yellow laser section. Damn geena!! Paul your laser life just got more busy with these drivers and diodes your getting!! I'm so excited to go to selem. I'm sure I will be discussing these diodes there. Can you imagine a projector with 505 488 520 638 445? If we can get beam specs legit where on our way to multI line argon with pcaom specs!!

Yes, it is very exciting. As luck would have it I have one new copper module left to press this 488nm diode into and plan on doing today. I have high hope for the driver i have coming as it could be a great boost driver for these diodes. I also may have a lot more diodes coming my way to test and I will happily post the results on this forum. All these diodes have excellent beam specs and would make quite an unusual projector for someone willing to build it. :yh:

SORRY FOR THE DOUBLE POST

I got the preliminary results after pressing the PTL5-488 diode. At 75 mA it is 483.4nm, but at 275 mA it reached 488.2nm. At first I was thinking this is not going to be a 488nm. It seemed far too low at lasing current, but it did come through when I increased the current slowly up to 300 mA. It seemed to hit 488nm right around 275 mA. It is a very pretty blue color. I should pull out my argon later to compare the two, if just for fun. I hope this is to your liking Joey. :yh:

Well it is very interesting to say the least... they show it as having a 150ma max current if memory serves correct but to get the advertised wavelength they want twice that lol

Yeah, that was what I was thinking. IDK. They may not be the actual PTL5-488s. At 150 mA they didn't make it to 488 at all. Maybe 485nm. I still plan on pulling my argon out and doing a comparison. :thanks: guys.

Thanks Paul!
I guess I'll decide what to do now with it, but if sharp is now making 488's I'll probably sell this one and waot it out for one of those because I don't trust myself too much with a diode that expensive. In the meantime post some pics if you can! And can't wait to see the argon comparison!

As for anyone else, should I look into doing a group buy on these? I think she would probably do an order of 5, but I'm not sure how they would be for doing only like 1 more. Also, I asked if she knew anything about the new sharp diodes and I'll see what comes back

So is there that hollow ring in the raw output like the 495 or much better beam!

I haven't yet checked the beam quality. That might be something that will have to wait until tomorrow. I was hoping to try to get some beams shots and take some power measurements.

If this is 485 at 150mA, I absolutely want one, even if the 490 were still around. Thats exactly what I want from a diode. 490 was too green and 480 is too blue...

I did some further testing last night and I think this diode is much happier being a 483nm to 485nm diode. I was checking for artifacts in the beam, like the hole in the "495nm" diode, but this one doesn't have that. I also used an acrylic lens and found the beam is nice and clean at multiple distances, but it got quite warm with the lens in it at 200 mA and I'm just afraid it won't last at 275 mA or higher.

On a side note..... I had post with Lifetime17 about some new modules DTR had that didn't seat the diode properly and yesterday I got three new modules from DTR to compensate for the three I bought recently out of the blue. That was sooo very nice of him. Thank you, Jordan.

Any update on availability or a group buy joeybab3? 483nm-488nm, thats a wavelength range to be excited about !!!
