It's really simple actually.

We just need a beam of particles that absorb photons. I guess a black-hole would work but then you'd get sucked into it, and that's no good.

But to make a "Black beam" you need to have a beam of something that absorbs light.

If there were only some way... lol

How weird would it be to point this theorhetical beam off of the wall, and have it look black where you're pointing it? What would different intensities look like?

Would it be safe to look at the beam? What kinds of goggles would you need then? lol

Could you magnify the beam? Make it a high-intensity flash-unlight?

Well since this train wreck was bumped back up can someone recommend a beam combiner? IIRC There was a popular sled that had a good one but I can't remember which it was. PHR? LPC-815? Also is there someone who sells a larger one than what'd be in a sled that doesn't cost a small fortune so someone like me could actually hit the dang thing with the beams

OK, there's no stopping the reanimation of this zombie thread now

Anyway, the PHR has a very (short of buying a commercial dichro) efficient beam combiner. It's the largest optic in the sled, and it's the one responsible for bouncing the red and violet beams into the objective lens.

It's reflect 405 and 660, and pass green.

If you do indeed want to combine 658 and 405, you'd want a dichro from a DVD sled. Now here's the catch- some DVD dichros are much more efficient than others. Get a variety of them from different sleds, and try them all. You just might get lucky, or you just might get a dichro that thinks it's actually a beamsplitter.

PHR's have a nice size combining cube in them. Plus when you get the sled you get the 405 diode with it anyways. win win.

Default Re: Pink Laser 500mW

Thanks for the info. I knew I kept the sled for some reason since I have a second that still has its diode in it still.

So if I want to for example make the pink/magenta like what's shown on the first page I would need a different cube than what the PHR sled has? I do have a LPC sled if that has a cube that would work. I have a couple sleds from a pioneer 16x and 4x drive but i forgot to mark which sled was which (doh). Sorry for the noob questions as I've never played with this type of thing before. Maybe I should go post over in the optics forum.

I'm not sure what color I'd get since my only red is a ~180mw LPC build and my 405s are 44 and 190mw. It'd be fun to find out though.

Wow - my bad on the zombie reanimation thing there... I did a forum search for a few keywords and it brought up this thread. Never occured to me to check the last post date, otherwise I wouldn't have brought it up. I was getting all into the debate about the black laser lol

curious. how was he pwned? Still no black lasers on the horizon.. (literally or figuratively) Remember, Laser is an acronym. the L still stands for light last I checked... So even a particle stream of some matter that absorbed photons, would still not be a laser. *shrug* the concept remains impossible.

As for pink lasers, its more magenta from what I have seen combining BR and Red lasers. But it's a rather interesting color.

Maybe a beam of anti-photons. We'd just have to hope the annihilation of photons and anti-photons doesn't produce... photons.

Anti-pink photons are too dangerous to suggest messing with. I think we need to be more responsible in this forum and not make dangerous suggestions that newcomers might take seriously.
