A month isn't that bad honestly.... I was expecting a turnaround more like 3 months. Hopefully there won't be any customs issues on the way back in... I wonder if it'd go any smoother if I offered to pay the upgrade difference to an 80mW model.

RA - I don't know if you got your 473 directly or through a GB; if the GB, was there any 'weirdness' as far as conveying to Ava/CNI that it was bought via Glenn via the GB but later shipped to you?

I'm just wondering if there's going to be any oddness with it coming from me instead of Glenn, and going to my address instead of Glenn's.

Yeah. The sad part is that I ordered the PGL-M in January, it did not get sent in GB7, so I paid for the upgrade to the 80mW, got it in May, it was defective, I sent it out ASAP, they recommended I switch to the PGL-C rather than the PGL-M (they said it the "C" is "better") and it is supposedly just getting shipped today... almost 7 months total, so the extra month was killer.
I stopped being impatient a while ago, though. I just had to build my own blue for the wait.

We'll see how this new 80mW model performs...

Customs should not be a problem. Glenn gets them in the GB all the time, and they have all the proper safety features. They are probably labeled as "OEM." CNI even has a USA based distributor that I can't recall the name of, so I am sure they ship to the US regularly. yobresal ordered a few PGL-III-Cs direct without a problem.

hmm. Doens't look so good..

Please send back the laser to us, we will repaired it for you, we will check what happened to the laser.
Please pay for the returing shipping cost.
Please send the laser to us as below method:
About laser for the return, please return via FEDEX, write on the air way bill as following:
Receiver
Company name : Changchun New Industries Optoelectronics Tech. Co., Ltd.
Address: No. 668 Chuangxin Road, High-tech zone, Changchun 130012, China
Contact person: Ava
Tel: +86 431 85603799
Description of Good: As sample
Declared Value for Customs: USD 20.00

Please tell us air waybill No. after shipment.
(Attention: Any expenses including taxes should on your account if occurred because you did not do as the above).

So, they definitely do want it sent FedEx (great, so FedEx can hit me with random tax and brokerage fees...) -- and no RMA#, just "Send it to us, then we'll decide..."

I don't like the sound of this... Wrote back reiterating the 4/15 purchase date and the 6 month warranty... Does CNI usually give an RMA# with this? They aren't even asking me for my return info... (which of course I'll include anyhow...)

Just feels a whole lot like "Send it to us on your dime, we might fix it, we might not."

Can anyone who's dealt with CNI tell me if this is par for course on the matter?

That's how it was with my return, also.
Don't worry, I sent mine with the cheapest shipping (if you want to call $175 "cheap") and it got to them in 4 business days IIRC with no problems.

It was really expensive as hell to ship... I recommend you try to keep the package under 1lb including packing material because mine weighed 1.4lbs and they said they had to charge for 2lbs. I almost wanted to shout "BULLSHIT!"

I don't think you will have a problem once CNI gets it.
Best of luck!

hmm. okay... Did they also give you this line?

Yes the portable laser is with 6 months warranty period.
When we get the laser, we will check it with our shipping department, if it is out of warranty, you need to pay for the repairation cost.

... I'm guessing they mean if it shows up and has been disassembled , dropped, submerged, wrenched, etc.... (which it hasn't... I treat this stuff like fine china..) - I presume they probably have a record of the SN# and when it was shipped out..

FedEx is giving me a $88 estimate online at 1lb; for 2lbs that only goes up to $96 ... though I assume a packing/shipping facility is going to double that.

Not as worried about that, just hoping they honor the warranty. Haven't heard from Glenn yet, maybe he can lend some insight...

Did you declare yours "As Sample" and $20 value, as well?

I was not told that. They first asked me for the Serial# which I assume was to check the production and shipping date for the warranty. But mine was defective right out of the box and I notified Ava that day.
I was told that it had to be inspected, though.
Sounds like standard warranty repair procedures.

My FedEx online quote was also $96, which is why I was so shocked at the $175 bill. I have no idea what the difference is... I really HATE shipping FedEx.

Ava told me to label it exactly as you quoted and it got through fine, though. If it is still under warranty, I think they will honor it. Just make sure you tell them that you had problems from the beginning.
And if you don't hear back from them for a while, it doesn't hurt to send them an e-mail asking for updates. Ava was a little slow with me at times.

IDK what is going on for you two with shipping, but it only cost me about $30 to send my PGL back to CNI, and yes they gave me the same e-mails :( Good luck +rep to ease the pain.

Thanks, DLMB ... Did you ship yours back standard FedEx?

THB, I don't remember for sure, but I do know it was only $30 :/ I did use fedex and declare it with a value of 20. the package was much less then 1lb, CNI did not give me much trouble, get Glenn in on this with you, he has power over CNI and they dont want to risk all the sales he gets for them.
I wish you luck, you may need it. I personally may never buy a laser from CNI again because of the SHIT they sent me

It's a 6 month warranty.
Edit:
By the way, shipping my PGL-III-M 473 back to CNI cost me ~$170.
Contact Ava. She will help you out.
why not use USPS? I remember I tried sending a laser back to China with UPS and it was gonna be $150 (the package was about 2lbs). They recomended USPS to me, so I went there and sure enough shipping was only $12 or something (cheapest shipping yes). Took about 10 days to get there, but I sure think that's well worth it if I'm gonna save about $140.

My 473 50mw has been back twice now. First time via Glenn. Second time directly (it's on its way back now). If it's a warranty repair then they will pay the shipping charges. Just ask Ava for their Fedex account details.

... Freaking out here, not sure what to do; I'm guessing I'm just out $700...

My PGL-III-C 473 50mW from GB #7 just started acting weird. The indicator LED doesn't turn off.

When the key is turned, the indicator LED is on, but dim. I press the button to turn it on, and the LED gets brighter, but it doesn't emit...

It was working 10 minutes ago; I'm presuming here i'm SOL...

sorry to hear it, mine did the same after 2 days it was an 80mw rated ... :scowl:

apparently CNI has difficulties with the 473 ...
