I just checked laserglow to look at the orange laser pointer they have for 299 and now it's not there no more..Instead now i see a yellow pointer on there going for 599 ! Is this the same laser pointer that just had it's price raised by 300 dollars or is this actually not the cheaper 299 orange laser and actually a true yellow laser pointer ? In the pic looks very yellow and not orange ...please someone explain this to me becuase it's confusing..

laserglow yellow im talking about - http://laserglow.com/index.php?rigel

It's the same laser, wavelength of 593.3nm. Laserglow had to bump the price a lot because CNI's prices skyrocketed for the yellows IIRC.

Yup. I think the companies are trying to get a more yellow yellow for medical stuff. Here's hoping we get something around 580nm.

We're going to see a lot of Chinese prices increasing. Inflation is starting to get out of hand over there and the costs of raw materials are skyrocketing, so the days of "Made-in-China=Cheap" may not last much longer. They will probably always have cheaper labour, but will have to pay more for materials. It's those pesky checks and balances in a global economy I'm afraid.

Handheld yellows are going up in price all over because they are becoming rarer and fewer companies make them. It would be great if there were medical or imaging uses for yellow lasers, then maybe the diodes (or whatever they come up with to replace the heinously complex crystals used now) will be mass produced and we'll be able to build them like we do Blu-Rays today. Good times.

I found a yellow laser pointer for 349.99 at big lasers - http://www.biglasers.com/site/1589403/product/594-2-A

Is this the same yellow laser pointer that laserglow is selling at 599 ?
Technically yes. It is made by the same manufacturer(CNI) and it is in stock. The only difference is that they probably don't test the lasers like laserglow does and they won't hesitate to send you an underpowered laser.

I wonder what an underpowered .6mW laser would look like :-/

Would dragon lasers be one of them..Do you have a small list of the best companies to buy compact laser pointers from ?

The most reputable companies are Novalasers, Optotronics, Laserglow, and I would include Dragonlasers as well. They don't have quite the reputation of the others but they are certainly not a bad company. Stay away from Wickedlasers, Techlasers, and thinklasers (all owned by the same people).

Is the 5mw yellow pointer that dragon lasers sells really a 5 mw ? I say this because i taught there was only a 2mw yellow so would this be a legit 5mw yellow or is there something not quite right there ?
