Read the small letters in the laser spec and note that the output power is > 1.6W. So it will not output 2W. Labeling it as a 2W laser is just a mislead.

Other than that, I have no experience with that spesific laser, but my experience with other lasers that I bought from O-like brought me the conclusion that they are of medium quality.

yeah i actually -did- read it and sure its a bit misleading. but even if its at least up to its >1.6W spec i dont think it would be too bad for the price... and yeah from the lasers ive bought from o-like before, i would say medium quality is a good description. although aside from o-like i came across this website \ laser: PL 445nm 500-2000mW it seems promising... :) keyword --> "seems"

^I would recommend going with laserbtb, their lasers are of much higher quality then o-likes.

with those nice safety features and a much better host than a brass brick i think lasersbtb is in the lead for my choice.

though i notice the 500mw version has the "(FDA)" next to it... correct me if im wrong but isnt the hosts safety features what makes such a high powered laser FDA approved? does the 2000mw version not have the same host as the "(FDA)" 500mw? just wondering in case anyone knew.

Yes. The hosts safety features are what make it "FDA" approved. The 2W host will be the same as the 500mW host :)

OR ……….Make your own!

There are some very skilled host makers on this site and their work is beautiful and at the same time you are helping out a fellow LPF member. From what I can see and by my own experience people here are more than willing to help out with any questions you may have but I have found that if you spend your time here researching everything you need to know has already been answered.
I joined up here about 6 weeks ago and straight away ordered a maglite build from Jayrob which I am sure will be AWESOME when it arrives. Back then I knew NOTHING about building a laser, had a couple of modules on hand and in that time (6 weeks) have now added 3 Diode modules to hosts, 2 x 532nm 200mW and a 650nm 250 mW. It is fun to put it all together and like I said ALL the info is here and if you can't find it just ask!
I really do encourage anyone who is considering adding to their collection to spend a little time researching here and build your own. you will be greatly rewarded in many ways, saving yourself money (Although there are a few members here making a bit out of me lately! :yh:) but also you will have a certain satisfaction that to some extent "I built this!"
Please consider this and happy hunting whichever path you choose!

Shane.

The PL and HL series hosts do contain the safety features required to be FDA approved, however, it would appear that portable class IV lasers (beyond 500mw) cannot be classified as being FDA approved. The hosts are identical except for the <500mw units having an FDA symbol on the sticker.

I recently purchased a PL 445 2000mw from LaserBTB and couldn't be happier with it. It shipped in 4 days and was delivered 2 days later. Everything was received in perfect shape and packaged very well. The laser itself is of excellent quality and the beam is simply stunning. I don't have a LPM but the beam can be seen during the day, creates a VERY solid beam into the night sky and has great burning abilities. I was able to light a match from 10+ feet away and able to light white paper on fire almost instantly with a focused beam. From the reviews I've read on here it appears the majority of the units from LaserBTB are on or above spec. Sometimes significantly...

I haven't done a review or really thought about it yet...

There are some good reviews of the PL 445 here http://laserpointerforums.com/f52/sky-pl445-1600-review-burning-video-87195.html and here http://laserpointerforums.com/f52/laserbtb-skylasers-pl-445-1-6w-87754.html#post1278777 but they are for the 1600mw version. It looks like the 2000mw is a recent addition.

I would really like to meter the output if I'm going to be doing a review, otherwise, I may end up giving a 2000mw laser that only outputs say 1700mw rave reviews. I don't believe this would be the case but until I can test it it's all just speculation.

Forum member Blord has awesome DominatoR lasers!

If I were you, I'd build my own 445nm laser, or have one built by a (reputable) forum member...
