RCB, PBS cube combine the output of a couple of 08 diodes, you will have the power you like with a brighter color.

Jordan, is it dropping out at about the same rate as the 07E when pushed? I am probably going to order an 08E and am wondering if with the dropping out you also get a good push with the wavelength. I'm thinking with this diode it's probably not worth it though since we already have 2 462nm diodes anyways. Going on vacation again this morning back up to the Adirondacks for a week. When can we expect some wavelength tests?

I would want a 6X pair after the combining and that means using a wave plate, I thought with the 10nm difference in frequency that I may be able to combine a 08 and a 44 in the same orientation as the divergence is seemingly identical.

I haven't seen any dichro's which allow only 10nm spread maybe there is but I have great doubt. If there is, Cyparagon will chime in, guaranteed. I agree, wave plates are the way to go with these diodes, otherwise you get a cross pattern instead of one beam right on top of the other.

Default Re: NUBM08 4.3W 455nm Laser Diode

Hi Red,

I did not understand what did you mean by "avoid wave fronts from cancelling out", but to my honest knowlegde polarizing breamsplitters are not very wavelength sensitive. E.g. on Thorlabs graphs page there is no PBS for 445nm (which ones I am using at the moment from other suppliers), but one for 405nm has broad range around stated 405nm.

About not using a waveplate to combine MM beams: it might be possible if both beams are cylindrically expanded before PBS combining in the way they have same spots (square or rectangular). But this would make the set more complicated (you add another pair of cylindricals instead of one WP and the total cost can result higher.

BTW I have added more pictures in the 465nm Blaster thread.

You and Alaskan have just +repped me for old 14W thread - now I have to make some pictures of that beam, too. But remember - this is not a portable device and the beam is only 3x expanded. I did not receive 6x cylindricals from Glutton yet.

Hi Diachi,

I have ordered this new 445/462nm dicro from Phil at Live lasersystems - it will cost me 134EUR incl. VAT and shipping (the life in EU is expensive you know). If it really works as expected, an up to 20W beam could be possible without knife-edging.

I also saw that Kvant sells modules with 445+462 beam, so this must be possiible to do: https://www.kvantlasers.sk/product/1...t-laser-module.

But there is one point LL guys and Mateusz from Optlasers wrote to me: WP designed for 445nm would only rotate 465nm beam 80 (not 90), so some losses are to consider unless I use a WP specially designed for 465nm... We will see.

Default Re: NUBM08 4.3W 455nm Laser Diode

I am thinking about using this cube: Polarizing Beam Splitting Cube PBS DPSS Laser 445nm 635nm 532nm Laser Didoe | eBay

I plan to use a wave plate and I am want to use 6X cyl correction on each beam before combining in the cube, so 2 sets of cyl pairs that way each beam is a nice 1 x 5 mm ribbon with lower divergence and I should be able to fit the combined beam out of the cube into a 3X expander.

That's the plan anyway. I was asking is 10nm of separation between the 44 and 08 might allow me to skip the WP but I will just use 2 x NUBM44's for a couple of reasons.

Default Re: NUBM08 4.3W 455nm Laser Diode

Well, found this old thread about NUBM08.

I want to add a picture posted today in the "NUBM05 specs" thread which might be interesting for someone eventually looking at this one.

These are spots of 2 NUBM08 diodes at 5m with 4.5A current. One diode has G-ball, other G-2 lens.

As one can see here, I was lucky to get a LD with G-ball producing a pretty thin line, even if spot is still 4x less concentrated than G-2 makes.
But it looks that there are many types of G-balls which produce different spot shapes. So one can get a rectangular spot 25x75mm as from 08 RC has (me, I got similar from NUBM05 and NUBM06 with G-balls).

And I do not know if 8 G-balls in any N. block are all same or not. Can anyone give me an answer, please?

And now the most interesting fact what shocked me first (Alaskan, you sure will be surprised to hear this!): one of these beams passes the 445-462nm dichro (96% pass), other is reflected (97% refl.). And I can combine these beams from 2 LDs of same type with a Dichro and without making use of any PBS and WP...
I checked specs: WL can be in range 450-460nm, so I might accidentally happen to get one NUBM08 with 450nm and one NUBM08 with 460nm beams.

Awesome, is not it? Maybe the previous hype here about 08 was not in vane - even if not being stronger than 44 in power these turned out to be remarkable by other feature!!!

Default Re: NUBM08 4.3W 455nm Laser Diode

I wonder if there is a dielectric coating such as is used in distributed Bragg reflectors in our NUBM diodes?

Look at the face of the die/emitter, it looks coated, maybe this is what is oxidizing when we remove the GBall/cans?

My GBall diodes all lose power over a couple to three months of use, maybe 3 minutes in a heavy heat sink 20 times a day for 6 weeks and by the end of 6 weeks my NUBM08 was looking like about half brightness and was way down on burning power, I don't have a LPM but next to a NDB7875 the 6 week old NUBM08 was loosing to the year old 7875 in brightness and burning ability.

Anyone have any ideas?

I am thinking we should leave the GBall/can intact and use different lenses to refocus what's coming out of the GBall lens.

I have heard mention of an inert gas mixture inside the can of certain diodes, so your theory is possible.

That or just running them so much above spec is degrading them faster than would be normal.

Default Re: NUBM08 4.3W 455nm Laser Diode

It seems that removing the can/GBall causes the diode to weaken to half brightness in my case in about 7 weeks of daily use.

I had an idea as the diode I paid 140 dollars for are now for sale online for 41 dollars with free shipping and may get cheaper, because although the color is pretty @ 455nm the GBalls divergence is like a flashlight yet not as aggressive as the raw output that out 3 element or G2 lenses will work with.

My idea was to simply order 2 diodes as they get cheaper, extend the threads of a 12mm copper module and remove a can/GBall from 1 of 2 diodes.

You can get 7 weeks out of the de-canned diode if you want and use the can/GBall you removed to reverse engineer the other diode, that should result in the raw output being achieved in the length of the added can where a standard 3 element or G2 lens could be used.

A sleeve of the right size could be used to join the cans head to head. Press fitted.

EDIT

The divergence is more aggressive naturally without the GBall so the very back of the can may have to be removed so that the 3 element/g2 can get close enough. Of course a dab of SEBP or anything to protect the back of the lens should be used inside the can while cutting off the base if it's necessary.
