Interesting new pointer on DX. Knowing this host fairly well, it's going to be a C-Mount diode. At $200, the math makes sense / adds up, for this to be a legit 2W IR. Of course, that doesn't guarantee that it actually is - but the pricing matches the specs.

Im still a bit worried about noobs who buy it, use it, and then think hey this looks weak is it defect? *looks into the laser* huh my eye starts to tingle and burn and wth is that smudge i see in front of me...... DX is a dangerous place for the unaware...

How do you figure?

Assuming 30% or so efficiency (just a ballpark figure), that's like ~7W input into the diode. Say the driver causes some loss too, so maybe 8W out of the batteries. In series, they're ~8V, so that's a simple 1A of current. Assume a CR123 with an actual capacity of 500mAh, and you're looking at 30 minutes of run time to deplete your cells.

That said, I have never understood why anyone cares about runtime when we have rechargeable cells. You know that I have never, ever, not even once, depleted the cells in any laser I've ever owned? I don't buy the "wear and tear on threads" argument against swapping out cells.

Tip: rechargeable cells, can be RECHARGED ;)

^one cr123, not two. It'll use a linear driver and a 2W diode will need just north of 2A.

The run-time might be terrible for a flashlight, but there's no reason to have a laser on that long at a time. Carrying a spare cell or three isn't that hard, either.

i also just noticed that lazerer also carries a 2W ir laser!

interesting how a "legit, power guarantee" site can be cheaper than a "lucky draw from a bag" drop-shipper like DX...

EDIT:
these hosts are very similar and even may be the SAME?
maybe they are from the same manufacture...

1000% Sure isn't 2W, 500-800mW Max. CR123 Can't give so Many Amps.

True, but the only thing is when you looking for a CR123 battery that many of these batteries are 3 volts, and must be taken into account,
because the laser's operating voltage what I put is 3.7V.

Yeah - this is entirely possible, especially if the laser is running off of a buck driver. At 4.2V (max voltage of a single li-ion), it is much higher than the 2V or so that the IR diode needs. It would probably reduce the input current necessary to like 75% or even 60% of the output current provided to the diode because of such a significantly larger input voltage.
