new 607nm DPSS process?

Shown on their news post (second from top as of 2/3/2012)

Apparently they're trying to "close the gap" between yellow and red lasers... is this for real?

I did my own research trying to solve what their system is... the only things I can come up with are: a direct diode to achieve the IR @ 1214nm, an excited Sm:YAP crystal, an excited Pr:GdLiF4, or something completely unheard of to me. Frequency doubling is probably like it always is. I just hope their process is efficient enough to be made into a handheld :D

Being I am making an Exotic DPSS chart, I was doing research on orange lasers today and found this, does anybody know anything else? I'm really intrigued.

(oh, and I sent them an e-mail asking about it, awaiting reply)

Lol, it's funny - last September I emailed Ava at CNI and asked if they could sum the 1123 and 1319 lines from ND:YAG to get 606.5nm output.

I bet that's what they're using above?

(BTW - CNI said no)

I've seen another 607nm DPSS setup based on a single Pr - doped crystal.

But if this system, uses two different crystal sets, the overall setup could be one for yellow, one for orange, or a horribly complex method of frequency summation.

New DPSS configuration?

That's a different Pr: doped crystals set than the article in the OP describes.

I remember a thread w/ a video about a 4-color laser supposed to go into some projectors pumped by a single 445... wavelengths were ~515nm, ~607nm, ~640nm, and of course 445nm. They pumped it into a beam splitter and into "special" glass lenses, probably the Pr: doped stuff.

Anybody know that video I'm talking about? I can't seem to find it on youtube or on a forum search. (it was a video showing a demonstration... the lasers were in acrylic or glass cases... shining onto a white wall, all 4 spots having a wavelength listed above them)

So in their process they use a 445 pump for 607nm... and in lasos's they get 607nm as well... making an assumption that this is their DPSS process. Now to figure out how much Pr:LiYF4 costs for a rough estimate of prices...

Hum... Really gotta wonder if we'll see this actually available .. Maybe its time to ping CNI again but it seems to me that they've all but lost all enthusiast business at this point.

I haven't checked but .. Through experience, gotta understand that these Lasos 607nm units, we're not even talking CNI labby grade pricing.. I see $5000-$7000 for one of these units easily...

For sure , following this though .. it's about time we got excited about a new wavelength again... I think I'll write Ava again for shits and giggles but I know what the answer will be.

ZRaffleticket: Did you get pricing back from Lasos or just a bunch of Germans belly laughing at you? :)

I totally agree with ya 100% and I always appreciate your enthusiasm.

But the little researcher within me tells me that its only still a scientific curiosity.

Commercialization would begin with who? How does anyone claim the rights to take someone's research and begin commercializing it and making money from it?

No, I hadn't from Lasos. I did talk to someone from Synchrovision saying the price on their 200mW kvant series is *PM incoming*
What? I don't like openly saying prices unless the company is openly saying it.
