Default Need IR filter for 830nm laser

I have a compact IR aiming laser(approx 830nm and 30mW) that causes too much bloom at close distances when viewed through night vision.
My PEQ-2A aiming module has a lens cap that has a filter that tones down the output and eliminates blooming at close ranges but does not distort the spot.
Works great with the compact laser but I want to make one out of the same type of material so I don't have to cannibalize the one from my PEQ.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I think you're looking for an Nd (neutral density) filter, they come in various degrees of...density? Not sure how to word that, just certain ones block more light than others.

Yes! Thanks!

This is exactly what I am looking for.
I did a little searching and found some glass one's on ebay but I was wondering if anyone here
knows a source for some tiny ones that will fit on top of the module.

You could try lowering the current via "pot mod", crappier batteries, and/or resistors/diodes in series.

Extra battery life as a bonus.

If you're set on using a filter, you can always try experimenting with various gel plastics.

My soldering skills honestly just suck on this scale and I wouldn't know where to start in adding a resistor.
I did find some replacement lens caps for my PEQ-2A and they should be in next week but I will try some other material.
Film negative and x-ray film have been suggested.
