No, didn't get a data sheet unfortunately. How did your laser turn out in the end by the way? anything good without the lens?

Sorry all, but now i'm a bit confused ..... you was trying to use a grin lens for axis correction ?? ..... i mean, for get a "squared" beam from a c-mount ?

Lol, I'm confused to, and I'm the one who bought the stupid lens.

Oh and I think I may need to order a new diode.... The module I had it in wore the the shielding on the wires from being moved to much, caused a short.... it still works, but doesn't seem to be as string :(

Oh ..... i asked cause, if you want to obtain a good focusing point (or beam) from a c-mount, you probably don't need a GRIN lens, but a FAC lens, for correct the fast axis ..... or, at least, a diode that already have a FAC lens on it .....

Surplushed had some cylindrical lenses, but was the biggest types ..... if i recall correctly, the one with the shortest FL was 15mm FL and 11mm large ..... don't know if your diode, at 15mm, have a fast axis that is less than 11mm large, and if not, some of the light go lost .....

or you can try one thing, but i don't know how it can work, cause i don't have these items for test it myself, at the moment ..... placing a first lens that reduce both the axis, then a cylindrical lens like that one, for correct the remaining divergence of the fast axis, then another lens for finally focus the beam ?

or, as alternative, cutting one of these lenses in two pieces and place the two pieces one rear the other ? ..... for shorten the FL ?

a moment, i try to see if i can find again these lenses .....

EDIT: found something .....

The second one can be probably used for make some tests, if you know someone that work in an optic shop and can cut and shape it for you ..... i mean, with 20mm FL and this thickness, probably cutting it in 2 pieces and placing them in sequence, can give you a combination with few millimeters of FL .....

I don't have that problem, but i'm tempted now, to order one of them just for the curiosity ..... i know, i'm crazy :p

jayrob-

Email me some shipping details so I can get this stuff sent to you and we can work something out. I'm really interested to see how this thing works, this is a great learning experience no matter how frustrating it has been the whole time....

Are you sending me your laser too? Because I took mine apart and sold the host/heatsink...

If you want to send the lens and laser, I can see about machining some type of holder to center the lens inside the module and do some testing.

But the more I read, it seems that we should have started with a diode that has a FAC lens pre-installed.

Sending PM...

ok, well in that case:
2000mw 808nm laser diode C-mount + FAC+ a focusing lens - eBay (item 140404375975 end time Jun-01-10 08:36:31 PDT)

What do you think of this? I don't see one in the pic, but does this include a diode you think?
If not, at least I could prolly put my diode in it.. I don't know, let me know what you think.

The diode would have the FAC pre attached befor its sent to you so all you would need to do was place the focusing lens infont of it to get a samll point :p

That picture is the C-mount diode...

It would need a custom mount for a hand held build. See here for an example:

If a c-mount is sold as "FAC", usually this means that it already have a FAC lens glued in front of the chip ..... but you can't see it in the pics, probably you can barely see it under a magnifying lens .....

Look, i have a 3W IR with FAC, in the pics you can probably see the lens (is the glass rod glued in front of the chip)

Sorry for the bad pics, the "macro set" of my webcam suck a bit (well, considering that are a pair of random lenses glued in front of the webcam with some painter duct tape, it's not completely bad, i guess ..... LOL )

Ok I'm getting really confused now with these c-mounts. Can anyone find / send a pic of a diode AND cmount so I can see how they work? TIA

Ehm ..... the "c-mount" is the type of "case" of these diodes (open case, being more precise).

That square item with the contact strip IS the diode in c-mount shape .
