The "MODC"

Diodes come in all shapes and sizes, but of the most common form factors, one that has long been sitting on the "edge" of convenience for hobbyists is the C-Mount. There are a number of builds on the forum that have used them, and they're of course quite common features in 532nm DPSS assemblies, but it would be a stretch to say that they're easy to implement in a build. They're certainly more of a challenge to work with thatn 3.8, 5.6 or 9 mm diodes. DIY builds that use C-Mounts typically require custom heatsinks, and a well thought-out solution for optics. While there are plenty of people who are capable of tackling that, it's always nice to have a universal solution.

That's what the MODC was meant to be, and in many ways, it hits the mark. I just received the first batch this week. It's a C-Mount diode module that is "Aixiz compatible" in the sense that it fits into traditional 12mm heatsinks, and uses traditional M9x0.5 lenses. It provides for great heatsinking of the diode itself, with heat conduction contact points on multiple faces of the C-Mount package. It also provide for great conduction from the module to the heatsink, by creating contact not just with the internal surface of the heatsink, but also with the rear heatsink face. The module also creates + and - leads that put little or no stress on the diode itself.

I've had some time to play around with the MODC this afternoon, and it's proving to be a lot of fun to work with.

If all goes to plan, I'll have a 3W IR build to report back on later.

Actually, how does the c-mount attach? I see the obvious mounting pin, but a pin alone wont hold it on... relying on thermal epoxy perhaps? or will a little "bridge" attach on each side, where those two threaded holes are?

I'd be in for a few if these become available. I've got a stack of c-Mounts I've been looking to use

Keep us informed on this. Looks good from what I can see. It would be nice to see it with the C-Mount mounted and how it connects. But thanks for all the hard work.

I'm with mike on this! Good stuff if the price is good! Especially for those of us without a lathe. Though a place to screw the diode in as opposed to a loose mounting pin-sandwiching it in the groove would be better so it doesn't move a rounds, and keeps the diode easy to remove

Very awesome, I'd buy several of them if you had them for sale. Edit: if I could get a CAD drawing for them, I might be able to get some made here.
