Well I might get a yellow laser for my birthday. Anyone have one? What should someone expect from this laser? I have never a laser this color, what color does it actually look to you eye?

I might be able to sell you my extra at a little bit of a discount if you're interested. Please give me a PM.

As to what to expect.. Well first off the stability on the pointers is horrible. The spec is 0.5-2mW and every one I've had has jumped between 0.5-2.5mW multiple times in a minute. However you're not buying these for burning power in the first place, so it really doesn't bother me. Also, though they're called "yellow" lasers, I would suggest expecting orange-yellow as that describes the color best in my and others opinions. Pretty much, what you should expect is just an interesting, rare colored laser, and not much more. You'll definitely be one of the rare few to own any type of yellow laser, but you won't be running around popping balloons or lightsaber dueling with them.

Okay - I saw somewhere you can use green, and red to make yellow if you shoot them both through a dicromatic crystal -where do you get a dichro ?!?!?!? I want one ! I cannot afford a yellow pointer right now - but if that is true, I can take my glowtorch red (237mw) and my evisu green (251mw) and combine them to put out a pretty strong Yellow, right ? Somebody let me know where you can pick up some dichro crystals CHEEEEEEEP ! (please ?)

Not a crystal. There are prisms but the easiest to use are dichroic mirrors. You can to find one that will pass (is translucent to) 650nm and reflects 532nm. Then theres a lot of alignment involved, and you can combine. The red/green combination you describe though will not be very balanced, you need a lot more red than green to get a good balance. Also, if the beam specs dont match up on them perfectly, you will notice the difference at different distances. All of this is adjustable, but can take a lot of work and some optics. You should be able to find one such dichro for $10-50 on eBay, though it might to be the best of quality.

Also, note that there is a HUGE difference between a yellow laser, and a R+G->Y beam.

PS: What is an evisu?

I just wanna see Yellow without breaking the piggy bank ! ;D Cannot afford a yellow laser right now - wish I COULD, but can't. :-/

Evisu works is the vendor I purchased my "120mw" greenie from...I filtered out all the extra IR, and tested with the Coherent LaserCheck - and BAM ! LOTS more than 120mw !!! It DOES have an IR filter, but leaks through about 47mw of 1064 IR.... I can always use the Glowtorch, and the Nexus, or my 50mw greenie...If anyone has a Dichroic mirror/prism to sell, let me know, okay ? I cannot find one on Ebay yet, and REALLY wanna try this out !
