Max output for a 635 nm laser, while affordable?

^ agreed

I paid ~$200 for my HL63133DG, but that was largely shipping pushing it to 200. If we got 10 people together, it would be totally doable to get that down to ~$170 or ~$175 without much effort.

Well, I am NOT a happy camper. I just sat down to make use of my $200 HL63133DG 170mW 635nm diode.

It's DOA. No good. Nothing. Not LED, not low output, just nothing.

Even tested it now with my DMM, and there's absolutely no conductivity between the pins.

You better bet that at $200, I took ever precaution 5x over. I know these things come with the territory, but I didn't make a mistake here.

I'm not going to request a replacement. I know that I didn't do anything wrong here, but the seller doesn't.

I wouldn't warranty a laser diode sold in this context, so I'm not going to ask someone else to.

I tore the can off to take a look at what was wrong. Pretty straight forward - the lead is broken. Symptom of static, too much current, or a capacitor discharge. All three of these things were controlled for, so I'm at a loss - but this is life :(

Eye candy :)

All I can do is build some 445s, sell them, and raise the capital to try this again.

Naa Dint me to ask for a replacement. Meant maybe at a discount price. But for sure Diodes without it listed as covered under warranty is not covered.

Sucks. But sorry for the loss.:(

It's all good. The crappiness was partially mitigated by some AWESOME new custom hosts that arrived from Ray J Neal :)

Wow. I'm scared now. Who or where EXACTLY did you get yours from rhd? I'm not one who takes a $200 loss very easily, and would probably be knocking down doors by now.

Do you want to? I don't know how AVnet would be any less expensive, on the site I think it says you get a discount at 1000 pieces, and they only have 50 in stock

rhd: I doubleposted...
jakeGT: Are there any more options to get them? (Calling Opnext is way too expensive.) Looks like they now have only 33 left. Even through we don't get any bulk discount, we could still save on shipping. Also, they don't ship to Europe.

Thanks guys :)

I'm going to give it another shot once my final two 445s sell. I think I'll order from the North American source this time. My challenge is that I don't know what to do differently, since I've never babied a diode this much in my life. Regardless, I'll give this a second shot :)
