Just got my 1.7W M462 from DTR and spent the afternoon retrofitting in one of my Reke Servo projectors already running a 1watt 445. Just to refresh, all my projectors are running in single axis only so they only do liquid sky safely above our sometimes big crowds. I already have half a dozen 445's and 450's deployed in the 1-1.4 watt range along with some Mitsi reds and a few greens in the 200-300mW range. I have a lot of floor to fill.

The M462 blows them all away - badly. Man, is this thing purdy! I've tried video but it doesn't catch the wavelength right. When liquid sky scanning with the albeit choppy servos the 462 looks *dramatically* different in color than the 445/450s running next to them. The M462 catches my smoke and haze machines much better as well. To be honest, when firing next to a 450nm Osram the M462 makes those beams look a rather dirty purple and a bit unimpressive.

Less 'spray' with the M462 than the older diodes.

Only thing that caught me off guard is the 1.8amp Xdrive doesn't like 12volts and will 'fault' about every 90seconds if done so. Oops, should have read the fine print. Dropping them down to a 6volts switch supply fixed the problem. The diodes run inside those black Zbolt sinks with some airflow on them, so they run continuously and stay cool to the touch.

Yeah, these things rock. The M462 is the first diode I've worked with that starts to have the impact and feel of some of the classic argon shows I used to go to. Can't wait to pick up a NDG7475 this winter. Big thanks to DTR for the quick shipping as well.

Glad you like it. It is an awesome color.

As an interesting note, the second 462 I ordered from you is a rather obvious color difference from the first.

First diode is actually closer to 470. Second one dead on 462. No need to pull my spectrometer since I'm used to judging blue LEDs with my eyes and am pretty close.

The 470'ish diode is also visibility brighter due to wavelength. Both are driven identically with identical heat sinking, but the color is perceptually different when both running. No big deal for me given the 470nm looks nicer anyways, but seems like a lot of deviance.

is the difference between the 462nm and 469nm as pronounced as the difference between 445/450nm and 462nm? I'd think not, but have not seen for myself

and I agree. my 445nm looks violet by comparison. run a 445nm, a 405nm, and a 462nm, and you see how violet/blue 445nm really is

Very strange. I have seen six of these spectroed and every one @1.8A was within 1nm +/- of 464nm. I am surprised you got one in the 470's. You said you are eyeballing it? If so that is a lucky find.

Dead middle. It's about a 7-8nm deviation on both ends. Like I said, I can read blue LED bins almost dead on. If I get my spectro calibrated I'll test to verify, but trust me, my eyes are pretty good. The one is really close to 470. It's what we call 'Windex' in the DIY world.

Yup. Can I get more? Biggest thing is it's visibly sooooo much brighter than the 462 you just sent me. I'm sure actual power out-put is the same.

Maybe still some teething problems with production. 470 isn't as valuable to color projectors because it's getting too close to green, but man, it's glorious for laser shows. That's why it reminded me so much of classic argon.

I apologize. I re-read the thread title and realized my mistake. I was under the impression this was a discussion on 463nm lasers. Please forgive my stupidity.

I just took your advice and thank you. I started a new thread. I know your comment looks harsh on the surface, but I appriciate the input more than I take offense to it. I am brand new here and am just happy I didn't get cussed at! Anyways, thanks for the help! (I deleted my origional post here to avoid further confusion.)
