Well...thats why I have chosen the more compact rifle.
Compared to its size, the effect of a backpacksupplied-CO2-laser would still look kinda lame. Destroying wood isnt that easy...plastics will melt...but wood is damn hard to burn.

wood gets all sooty then you just superheat the soot and it really doesn't go anywhere from there. That one spot does burst into fame though!

Dreams.....dont forget the lies, murder, hate...best thing is: You guys never learn. But back to topic.

You act like I said it will work to punch thru steel with a handheld sci fi laserrifle...thats pretty funny.

Its possible to give burning laser a damn cool housing. And build em as compact as you can.

a german is talking about hate? and germany is a model of tolerance LoL. if popping balloons and lighting matches and making peoples skin sting from over 10 feet isn't "burning" and my next example of destroying 2x4's is too dramatic the please enlight us since you are from such a sophisticated country.

Dont talk about the past. You guys never learn. We learned from our mistakes. And dont tell me anything about a barrier of language...how many languages do you speak? Barely youre own...so stop being a dick and btt. Dont wanna fight with a fucking teenager.

Hey man, lets not drag race into this. That's not a way to win a argument.

I wouldn't consider popping balloons burning, but matches and electrical tape and the like could be considered "burning." But a CO2 laser will actually burn whatever it is in its way, stuff will burst into flame. Especially if the beam is unfocused.

I don't think that the OP wants to burn little stuff, like matches and tape. He wants to set stuff on fire and that's not really possible with less than 1W, or probably even 5W.

I didnt do anything which caused this fight...cant stand his cocky attitude. Talking to me like that...with this pseudo-smart acting...what the hell?

Actually you need a CO2 laser or at least YAG (beyond 1000nm) for BURNING...real burning. 808nm diodes have a crappy beam and the wavelength isnt made for burning everything. CO2 burns white styrofoam, melts ice and glass...thats what I call burning laser.

The CO2 wavelength is boss for burning, pretty much everything burns at that wavelength. Having a CO2 laser ruined lighting matches and popping balloons for me though, after you have a laser strong enough to slice a CD case clean in half in about 5 seconds popping balloons just seems not as cool.

I cant wait to get my 40W tube running, I bet I could drop the cd case in front of the laser and it would slice in half before it hit the floor

i think we should define what we mean by "burn". we all have different opinions. and what distances we are talking about when trying to make a "laser gun" i think if those 2 questions can be answered a lot of confusion can be cleared.

The reason we dont speak multiple languages well is because we are not surrounded by other countries the size of states. Yes we have Canada (French), and Mexico (Spanish) but not too many people in the states want to go to either. At least not enough to learn the whole language. We have 300+ million people, and (unless they are not born here) speak English. So there is really no need to learn other languages. Plus most European languages follow the same rules in dictation. So its not as hard to learn them for you as it would be for us.

I really did not intend for this to become a debate over history and ethics :undecided:

I might have seen the answer somewhere before, but are you sure there is no way, even if done very carefully and with help from enough people, that you couldn't build a laser that can penetrate 6-7cm of wood, preferably in a Pulse?

Plus I was wondering if you could combine four or five lasers to create a stronger burning laser? And what are the dangers of such a thing?

I might be scrapping the Yellow colour and just following this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIwaMNab5pw , then employing something from Ash's notes and other's.

/facepalm

Don't do anything kipkay says, he is a king douche.

And you would need some insanely high powered laser to penetrate wood like that, more than you could get at a price under 10 grand.

Also, you can combine a bunch of lasers into one beam, but you need to be careful of whats called flashback or where the laser beam bounces off optics and back into the diode. It can kill the diode pretty fast. Other than that it would be just as dangerous as a normal laser.

Surge I'm very happy you are getting into the hobby, but you do have to do some of your own work. Most of your threads are kind of a challenge, which is ok, but you just got here and you need to do some homework like we all have first. All the answers to your question are posted on the forum. After doing the research, then come back with a challenge, and we will help you work it out.

you can penetrate cm's of wood easily. but you won't actually get to see it because all the debris. you would need a directed blast of air to simulate and impact with mass.
