Looking for Nichias NDB4216 and their other single mode diodes

Hi,

I am planning to buy some NDB4216 455nm diodes from Nichia. Also their other single mode diodes from 470-510nm seem great.

Is there a reliable reseller other then nichia themself (They have crazy prices if you need just 2 or 3 instead a whole batch)

Specific diodes that don't have a large consumer base are often difficult to find a seller for. Some people take weeks looking without success. I wish there was better news, but that is the size of it.

Unfortunately there is not much demand or use for the specialty diodes to make lower prices a rational business decision.
*ichia is best perhaps only source and at high prices as well if you have to have them---you could look at it as better than not available at all or only at even higher prices, I guess.

Would think they might give a discount for academic study/research purposes--especially if nobody is asking for them--just to get rid of old stock --might be worth asking.

Thanks paul! I ordered 15 of exactly these one 2 weeks ago and even got a small discount. When they arive I will bin them, keep the > 457nm ones and sell the rest for 20$ per piece.

If somebody is interested or wants to take the redistributive part (to avoid multiple shippings abroad) just write it here.

I have a PLT5-450B that at 250mA is way above 445nm, maybe even 455nm, but I don't think it's in the 460nm range.

I have two PLT5-450B, one at 459,5nm and the other one at 459,7nm. Both stabilized at 25°C and and running only at 90mA each. You sure can imagine how far you can push them.

It is also possible. The datasheet gives 440nm for the min wl and 460nm for the max wl. So >458nm
is in the speced range.

I got them both from a supplier who binned a 200 pack of them. These were the two highest ones. There were 4 diodes from 458-459nm and also 4 diodes between 457-458nm.

DTR himself had two diodes above 462nm in his
PLT5-450B thread. So I hope to get one or two diodes from the 15 I ordered. Than I would pay less then I did for the preselected ones.

What I'd be interested in are very low wavelength blues, <445nm, preferably <440nm. Have you found any of those while binning?
Then again, another diode model would probably be better.

It would be rare, indeed, to find the dimensions of the emitter in the spec sheet. Can't say I've ever seen one.

That's because they are IR diodes made for fiber optic coupling. I'll bet they ain't cheap either.

Singlemode laser diodes in the visible range have always a emiter size of about 3x1 μm^2. That's simply around the size of the fundamental optical mode in the waveguide created by the diode geometry.

Smaller and the losses are to high : less or no output power at all.

Larger and higher modes are possible: multimode diodes.

I have the near field distribution of the osram diodes and they agree very well.
