Hi everybody,

I want to buy a 500mw 808nm IR laser. The laser has got to be focusable and with on/off switch (not a temporarily switch).

Any recommendations?

TIA

I'd recommend good safety goggles.

Already got a pair of safety goggles.

Also got this laser from Lazerer.

I have two questions:

1. Is it normal that IR lasers can burn only at close distance, regardless of their power (due to beam characteristic etc.)? My unit is 600mw and can burn a match only to the maximum of 30cm.

2. For anyone who owns this specific model:
In my unit the focus is VERY loose. In fact it is so loose, that part of it is completely free and won't focus/defocus at that part (but the other parts can focus/defocus). Is this normal in this model?

I asked the vendor and he says that it's normal. I want to hear what is your opinion/experience?

:thanks:

Does the dot produce more of a line / oval when defocused a bit? Pictures of the dot?

Can't provide pictures of the dot, but yes, the shape of the dot is "-" shape rather than"." shape when focused. When defocused a bit the shape of the dot is much like a square or a rectangle.

Without any corrective optics the beam will have a higher divergence in the direction fo the slow axis of the laser diode. A prism pair or set of cylindrical lenses can compensate this.
