Lenses

Hey, can someone please tell me out of all these lenses I have what ones are better for what and what ones are used for what, also what is that big silver thing? and I also have a little spring I forgot to upload.



I also need to know, what side of the lense goes into module, and what side is suppose to get screwed onto the little silver thing?

The little spring goes between the lens and heatsink for resistance. The big silver thing is where you would put your diode, i.e a module. I can't tell what the lenses are by this picture, can you post one showing the color that you see in each?

What do you mean the spring goes in their, and why does it need resistance? Also, I can't see anything in the lenses.. But what side do the lenses need to go into the laser, what side needs to be where

lenses I have seen have slots in one side, looking like it could be to accomadate a screwdriver, this side faces out. I could be wrong but I think the spring is to the lenses as a washer is to a bolt

Can you describe which lens you got from where?

Also, the lenses should be coated so that they reflect the opposite color. For example, lenses made for blue lasers have a red reflection. That might help you differentiate between them.

Well, there all for my 445nm blue laser. What I was trying to determine was, which one is for distance, burning ect.

A G1 or G2 lens will be best for burning.
A three element will produce the best beam.
The only problem will be determining which one is the g1 g2 or the three elements lens.

Yeah, well I have a picture up there. Will you be able to tell me? Also, If I posted beam shots of each would you be able to determine?

Someone MIGHT be able to tell which lenses they are if you post macro photos of the glass, so you can see the color of the coating, without that, its just a lens in a lens nut, could be any kind.

I'm not 100% sure cause the photo isn't the best quality, but the bottom lens looks like an aixiz acrylic lens.

Yup, it's going to be a challenge to identify them through photos.

Beam shots might help as well though.

Hmk. There is 1 long one, and 2 short ones.

Plastic barrel ---> standard Aixiz acrylic lens

Metal barrel ---> 3-element glass lens

Gold colored metal barrel ---> G2 lens or the G9 lens

Metal barrel with a modified locking ring or barrel ---> G1 or G9 lens

And for the AR ( anti-reflection ) coating :
blue hue ---> red diode
yellow hue ---> voilet/blue diode

The list isn't 100% solid proof but a good guideline.

I've always wanted to ask this.
What is a G2 lens (G1? G9?)
What makes them so special?
I heard the output for those lens are lower than standard AR coats :can:

It looks like the top and bottom lenses are smaller and plastic which would make them the std aixiz acrylic lenses. The middle one looks like a 3 element glass aizix lens. As Blord pointed out, if they are tinted blue when you hold them up to the light they are for reds and if they have a yellowish golden tint, they are for 405 - 445 and can also be used for greens.

G1/G2 are high efficiency lenses with up to a 30% increase over the std glass lenses. The acrylics in my experience give a higher output than the glass lenses, esp for reds where I have actually seen them give the same out put as a G2 (G2 for blues though, as I don't have a red G2...)

The G9/T1 lenses are the same. The T1 was named by Ricktrent, but it turned out these were actually the same lenses as the G9's. The G9 is the lens that comes with the 9 mm diodes from DTR. The G9 has a very similar, if not pretty much identical, output to a G1/G2.

In summation, the G1/G2/G9/T1 are pretty much all the same. The acrylics are good, but can only handle max 500 mW safely if you will be adjusting the focus for burning. The black plastic casing can melt otherwise. The Glass 3 ele's are a cheaper, but lower power option for those using the higher powered 405 and 445 lasers. :beer:
