Just curious...

Have you ever used a different cell other than the one that came with the laser?

The reason I ask, is that protected cells are longer, and it can actually damage something if you screw the cap on too hard with a cell that is too long.

And also I ask because obviously the very first thing that you would check in a case like this is the battery.

Once in a while you just plain end up with a bad cell...

If not the cell, then probably a connection issue as was mentioned, but hopefully not some other issue like a damaged driver board or something...

Ohhh I know what you mean.
When I screw the cap in in with my protected 186650 cells inserted. Youu can feel a little buckling , a click sensation going on somewhere within the battery compartment.

It still lases , but a common problem among MANY MANY lasers hosts I've seen (albeit ... 6)

Couple of things....

1. What are you talking about? Do you own a Lasever 473 Laser? Because from everything in this thread it appears that it is Dr.Zoidberg's issue. This is the same as with the JL 473 that you remarked on and bashed so readily. If you do not have first hand experience with the laser, send him some well wishes and wait and see what happens.

2. If you have only seen 6 laser hosts, why would you make yourself out to be an expert on what happens when protected cells are inserted? Did you try out each one with a protected cell to see if there was damage done to the laser? On a somewhat humorous note, if I put "186650"'s in ANY of my lasers they would break.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is something that has bothered me lately. If you don't have any experience with a laser product that someone has an issue with, it is NOT okay to follow up their post with insults and bashing. It makes us look very bad to have people who have never even held the laser talking shit about companies. Hold off your hangman's noose until the issue has been settled for good or bad. Until then remember that these are temperamental electronics and things happen. Most quality companies, for example the ones you have been ripping on(Lasever, Jetlasers, and CNI if i remember correctly), are usually very good about resolving issues.

These are my 2 cents. Another member confronted you about this in the JL GB thread, and while you dodged his point I would say that it was still valid. When people post about an issue, they want help troubleshooting and/or reaching the company for a resolution. Most do not want help pointing fingers and slinging mud.

I was being ironic ,notice the use of the word "Albeit".
Irony and sarcasm is often lost in words it seems.

Since it seems they are talking about the PGL-III-C host's tailcap being the culprit of the problem. I too shared my experience with the PGL-III-C host.

Also , come on. Those companies are not like a beached whale that's gonna die when people stop moistening them with their saliva.
We are here to comment and point out the bad stuff so in the end , the customers and users (which in the end, are us) will have a more polished product.

If we are here to cheer EVERYTHING and push away the bad part , we'll just be making our own monsters.

Like O-like and Lazerer , remember back in the old day which LPF praised it to oblivion as the most economical laser reseller that provides decent products , often overspecs?
Look where they are now?
On the other hand , look at WickedLaser. We've often BASHED them . Gave out 30+ reasons not to buy from them. Years passed, recently we started getting positive reviews (Not sure if con job or what, or cracked a deal with them for free lasers. I have zero evidence of such btw) of their lasers being.. overspecs. Things IMPROVED!

I'm not the bible kind of guy but there is a saying.
Proverbs 13:24
If you refuse to discipline your children, it proves you don't love them; if you love your children, you will be prompt to discipline them.

I don't hate those companies, I ADORE THEM!
I WANT to buy a laser from them , if not why would I be on those threads?
But I don't want to dish out my savings until the problems I see at hand are solved.

JetLaser for example has solved their IR leak problem EXCEPTIONALLY WELL!
THAT IS A GOOD THING!
We love them for that!

Now I am waiting for CNI to solve my issue on the shutter problem , how it will turn out remains yet to be seen.

As for Lasever, that too is the case.

I've never been a good at disguising my meaning behind the shrouds of wording. I say it as I feel , will that appear to be insulting to someone?
Perhaps , but I believe if we can't say thing as it is , that'll be the end of freedom and democracy .

Thats all.

I have tried multiple different cells, if I remember correctly I don't think this even came with one.

There are some times you need just to CTRL+F4 and continue browsing the forum somewhere else.
If you have only irony and sarcasm to say, don't post, people can get it wrong (refer to Isaac's post).

:thanks:

It seems CTRL has won out good old ALT :p

Heheh I said that because I personally open multiple tabs for multiple threads, email, etc.
ALT would close all of them, and I'm not recommending hammy to quit using the web. :p

I also found David to be a very friendly and helpfuL- I wrote Lasever about the new dichro coming for 405s- when they were brand new to us. After a few emails he offered me, for the cost to ship ONLY a full set of dichros and added some FS mirrors too.

Jayrob knows them better than I do, but I am sure he will say to not worry.

They are nice people to work with IMO.

My multimeter is broken and I need to get a new one. I will look around after work and see if I can find some wire to try to bypass the tail cap but I am in the process of moving so hopefully I have some still around here. I will let you know how that works out for me.

If you can't find a piece of regular insulated wire, for what you're gonna be doing, a wire Bread Bag Twist tie will do in a pinch--------------

Just got back from vacation and am just now having time to look at things again. I received a reply from Lasever and they said

"Please check it again before sending back.

The address is at the end of email. Please declare it as electrical parts at $30. China customs is sensitive to laser. And value over $50 will be inspected and taxes."

I know I have heard people mentioning things before about particular ways I should send things back to China but I can't remember for sure. I believe it was something along the lines of send it with delivery confirmation or something. If you could let me know that would be great.

AFAIK what you DO NOT want to do is declare it to be worth 30$ then insure it for 500?
One would think that we would not have to tell some that but I have seen it done a few times. so...send it by the MOST expensive way namely Express whatever.
I put 'broken LEDs or LED Lights returned for repair on most I send and so far only one got lost ( i did not send as express) and only one other got opened and a duty. VAT etc got tacked on- at first China Customs wanted 100usd 'duty' but when a co-worker was sent to pay in person in cash they jacked up that to 300usd !!! so they may call it 'duty' but its clearly extorsion.

Be prepared for eye strain, headache and frustration as the addresses in China seem to be 3 times longer and the spaces on the 2 or maybe three forms needed will not be big enough to fit all- so you will need to use as many abbrevations as possible.

First time I just left with the forms and filled them out at home- now I have a supply of all the five they choose from and fill them out sitting down and at home. They are so hard to do that JETLASERS will often just ask for the item(s) to be sent to me rather than try to explain all that needs to be done for successful returns.

AND there are many others that recently have had big problems getting things both sent out and returned to China- Dr Lava's P3 drivers have been made and ready to ship for weeks but red tape has them delayed a LOT and people are getting mad at Andrew when it is NOT his fault- JL has been trying for several weeks to send me a new supply of li-ions and every shipper sends them back we are about ready to just give up at this point.

They were banned due to possible danger mainly due to the crash of a jumbo jet all ethese jets were grounded for more tha a month- they are back flying but the shippers are refusing to lift the ban - this leaves us with little options- if i lie at the PO when asked about whats inside the box I ship I can be fined 250$ minimum.

So I am forced to use Fed Ex and the shipping of a pound of li-ions has gone from 5.15$ to more than $8.50usd.

I really like the people at my PO and am very uncomfortable lying to them.
so please do not ask me to send you batts thru the USPS.

and if you are unhappy waiting ATM on something you have coming from china do not assume the seller/sender/shipper is at fault.

this is my 6000th post and i have almost never posted just to get my post count up-like a few others have done. One member makes the SAME post in almost every new thread in the WELCOME section so I made a thread there and guess what? he copied that same reply to me. WTH??

When I called him out on that he refused to admit he had never read my thread- saying he was just trying to use humor yeah right!

Thanks for the detailed reply. I have never shipped anything outside of the country so I am unsure on what I exactly all have to do. What forms are you speaking of in the last post?
