Does anyone made an 808 nm class 4 laser pointer ? I think this is the cheaper way to have a very powerful portable burning laser, but I'm doubtful about the beam quality and battery life :-/

Don't get too excited about the burning capability of 75W pulse power. It's nothing as far as a pulsed laser is concerned. My homebuilt YAG will do 1 megawatt in a single pulse but the pulse width is so short that it will only mark things and leave melted spots on plastic.

808nm and 980nm are the most cost effective means of having a burning laser system regardless of whether you build or buy it. They are less expensive simply because they are pure diode laser systems. Such diodes are a dime a dozen, as they say, because there is a huge demand for pump diodes at high power. Of course, the beam quality will suffer because they are constructed of multiple emitters. You will never get high power and good beam characteristics in a diode laser. The physics of the laser junction simply do not allow for a single emitter at high power.

Yes I know it very well, my yag can only vapourise black ink paper and similar things when not focused. :-/
I don't know if you remember that but we have talked about this laser on youtube some months ago, I'm rachm06 ;)

Yes I have a 2.5 watt from laser pen shop. Anyone know how to make it pulsed or build a new power supply circut to make it pulsed to make it more effective etching or possibly etch metal?

ok think aboguht buying a 1watt ir for like to use with a fiberoptic cable to do soem fine woodburning what are teh chance of hurting my eyes ( all gogels i fidn for ir are super expensive)
your eyes are more exspensive to replace, but you can't buy a new one, they are priceless
