Question Interested in doing a blue build and want to make sure I've got all the parts

So I've been wanting a yellow or orange laser for awhile now and the only ones I can find that are from reputable sellers on websites like eBay are a little expensive for my taste. So I'm gonna take it as a reason to build my first laser. I've checked out the guide thread but I'm still a little bit lost. I think I have all the parts that I need and I think they are compatible but, anyone can think anything so I'm here to ask if it's all correct and if I'm missing anything or if you guys would recommend a different part because of a certain reason. Here's the list tell me what you guys think and if you have any recommendation please let me know. (I'd prefer to use 16340 batteries because of their size and I want it to be small and portable and no more than 1 inch taller than the case I already linked.)

Hosts:The problem with the hosts is more of that I'm not sure if they come with all the accessories. Like the BL-850 shown here has so many other accessories that look like I might need them especially since I'm only getting the diode and no heatsink or anything and how would the diode fit properly than, I just don't know if those GD-30X come with the heatsink thing to go from 5.6mm to 12mm (I think 12mm is the case size) and I can't seem to find the proper 5.6mm - 12mm heatsink thingy.
Drivers:
  • Aixiz 1W 445nm Blue Laser Diode Driver
Diode:
  • Single 1.5W 445nm Blue M-140 Diode

So, does it all look good? Am I missing anything, is something not compatible? Should I be using a different part somewhere? Thanks for taking a look, I'm really excited and hopeful to build my first laser pointer and have my first orange one as well!

Also, why do the top 50 links all not work, It gives off an abandoned feel to the site...

Maybe it's just me but 637nm looks red to me, not orange. Granted it's leaning towards the orange end of red but I'd still call it red. True orange is generally so expensive because it's usually harder to produce and there is a lower demand for it.

Example: 612nm which is orange.

632nm:

EDIT again; But then the problem I have with blue is that I still can't find anything in the 460-490nm range on eBay, am I just looking in the wrong place or something?

Some ~615nm (Around that W/L anyway) diodes did come up at an auction a few years ago. However, they weren't production diodes and had to be cooled to a very low temperature to ever reach that wavelength, IIRC. Can't remember the specifics there.

470-495nm diodes are also hard to come by. 445-462nm are easy to find at varying powers though.

Also - you should avoid posting multiple times in a row. You can just edit your previous post!

Someone else may have more input when it comes to a host.

Hi A,
Go to DTR's shop and get the NUBMO7E run it with a 5A SXD with a long ramp up
and you most likely hit 470+nm. Make sure your host has a heat sink with mass. I built one and it does just that and you won't regret the WL either. It's awesome diode for a build. Go for it !

Default Re: Interested in doing a blue build and want to make sure I've got all the parts

yeah yellow is quite hard to produce, and is very touchy at high powers, so it gets expensive fast. but as for orange, its not really too hard to produce, just not a common laser that is needed for much, and most of the applications that use it for anything usually get it from a dye laser due to the power needed. the new solid state oranges are pretty costly at high powers, but at lower powers they're still quite pricy, but not unreasonable considering they're a new product still just starting to find their way out into the world. they're more costly simply because of the low demand frankly. as far as complication of their construction, they're actually quite simple to make. just Pr3+:YLF crystals and orange coatings aren't exactly on everyone's wishlist. they're quite customized and specific all the way around, compared to a KTP or LBO that can just be relatively broad coated for pretty much everything blue, green/yellow and call it good and mass produce it for literally what feels like everything, everywhere. the Pr3+ setup has lots of lines close together, so that isnt an option and has to be rather meticulously coated so there isn't any competition, as well as dealing with the copious amounts of heat involved. (though not crazy bad compared to many other lasers)

Not sure if I would recommend someone to run an NUBM07E at 5A as a first build. Alaskan had his die VERY quickly at 4.5A in a host with a very large heatsink. I don't run any of my NUBM07E builds above 4A for this reason. I would definitely hate it if he built his first laser, and it died on him just a few weeks later. That would be incredibly discouraging for a beginner.

I would definitely recommend you go to DTR's site to check out his diodes and drivers. He is, without a doubt, the most reliable diode AND driver seller around. And if you buy from his site, you save a little money because he doesn't have to pay eBay fees on each sale.
