Default Interested in 589nm and 473nm laser pointers

Hi, so I'm new to the forums but I've been a long time laser fan. I have 405nm, 445nm, 532nm, 635nm, and 650nm lasers so far, but I've always wanted a yellow. My questions are (about both 473nm and 589nm) where are the best places to buy it? I was looking at dragon lasers and they have the Spartan and Aurora series, but how reliable are they? Also do they still ship to the U.S.? I want a 5mw one so I don't really need to wear glasses around it, but would it likely be overspec? Because that would be nice. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I mostly just want the 589nm and 473nm to have visible beams in the dark, the brighter the better.

Edit: also why when I click laser pointer company database, or laser top sites list does it just appear blank? I'm on Chrome if it matters.

Welcome to LPF. You have a pretty nice collection for someone who just joined the forums.

I would suggest Dragonlasers for the 589nm and Jetlasers for the 473nm. I read that you want them to be 5mW just to be safe, but at the same time want them to be overspec and have a bright beam at night. These things don't go together. You either have a 5mW laser that is not overspec (because what would be the point of having a 5mW for safety reasons when that's going to be taken away by it being overspec?). Or you want to get yourself the 50mW 589nm and 473nm lasers Dragonlasers and Jetlasers sell. Dragonlasers has delivered underspec lasers for two or three members in the past, but lately they've been nothing buy excellent. Me and quite a few other members got our 50mW 589nm not too long ago and they all were overspec. Then for Jetlasers, they offer a 30mW and 50mW 473nm. Their lasers are of a good quality and offer a fair amount of things (like having both a temporary and normal on/off switch) that other lasers don't have.

Also, if you decide to buy a laser at Dragonlasers, be sure to grab a couple diffraction gratings with it. Their gratings are of high quality and pretty cheap compared to others. Shipping however isn't cheap, so unless you need something else from them they aren't worth buying.

The laser pointer database links are ads that either offer crappy lasers or just don't show anything at all.

Hey Galm welcome to LPF!

If you're looking for a 589nm laser, and are located in the U.S., there is one for sale HERE on LPF by a member, it is the Dragonlaser Spartan. No customs to worry about!

Hi, what I meant was about the strength, I want it to come overspec, I'm pretty sure my "5mw" violet laser is way overspec considering it can light matches, but that dot isn't too bright to look at. I just don't want an incredibly bright 100mw laser. Something similar to a Wicked Lasers Core (I have the kind that can be overclocked? forget the term that can push it further than its meant) and at night that looks amazing.

Lastly, haha thanks about the collection, I've been here a couple times but never needed to say anything before. I've always loved lasers though.

That price is higher than Dragonlasers is charging... I also would rather buy a 5mw variant. Do you know anything about the Aurora series vs Spartan? (The 5mw variants, which would probably be brighter?)

Also you both seem to be owners of Spartan lasers, how are they?

So if I understand what you're saying, then what you mean is that you want the laser to be tunable in power? I'm afraid only Wicked Lasers, Optotronics or tunable lab lasers have these features.

And every one of them has some flaws. For example. Wicked Laser's shipping takes forever, if it arrives at your home at all. Optotronics is good quality but ridiculously expensive. And lab lasers aren't handheld so you lose your portabilty.

I don't think you really get how lasers work, or you make it look like you don't get it. A higher power, means a brighter dot and beam. There's no way that a 5mW laser can be brighter than a 50mW laser of the same wavelength.

I own the Spartan, and it's definitely the most beautiful wavelength I've seen so far. It's very unique.

Hello Galm
I own a DL Spartan 5mw 589 (and two DL 589 50mw's) and it is a nice unit. To me, the main advantage of the Spartan over the Aurora is the on/off switch. The Aurora you will have to hold it down for the unit to stay on. The Spartan has the tail cap on/off switch that when you press it on, the laser stays on. The Spartan also has a screw in lens cap. You really can't go wrong with either one.

Since you own both the Spartan and Aurora, I have a question for you. Do you notice any difference in the color of these two? I have a Spartan 589nm and I notice that it gets more orange as it gets brighter.

Hey Gozert - I do not have the 589 Aurora. I actually have a 445nm 200mw Aurora, which no longer works, but I still have it. With my 50mw's, they seem to keep a consistent yellow color. If I look at photos I have taken when the 589's are cold, warm or hot, I really do not see a difference in color. And when they are on and my 593.5 30mw is also on, they look very yellow with not a hint of orange in comparison

Hahahaha no I meant mw the overclocked? Core goes to is a very nice strength. I'm not asking for a tunable laser ik that's not really a thing / expensive. All I meant was the brightness of my overclocked Core is a great brightness.

I see, thanks. My 593.5nm does indeed look orange next to my 589nm. But I feel like my 589nm is just a little more yellow with a cold start rather than when it's warmed up. Maybe it's just the brightness though.

Sorry, but I'm not following you. Maybe another member can explain what you mean. I just don't seem to get it.

Do you happen to know what the 5mw actual strength is? Also how visible is the beam at night?

Sorry, but I'm not following you. Maybe another member can explain what you mean. I just don't seem to get it.
Ok so one of the Wicked Core lasers from like the 2013 series, had underneath the button a screw that would adjust the limiter on it to make the laser emit more mw. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6cfXgjSh8I All i meant is I did that mod, and whatever mw it is emitting is a brightness I liked. It could be 10mw, I just don't know. I don't want one that adjusts, or anything like that I was just trying to describe the brightness I have on my green one atm. Its over 5mw, but not too much over.

589 & 473 huh? Both of those are very nice wavelength's indeed, and you can't go wrong with either. The 589 is seen by many people as "having a sun" in your hands, while the 473 looks like a tropical water color, see what I mean , both are amazing!

Along with the previously listed sellers, LaserGlow does also sell 589 & 473 but those have spiked in price lately and are pretty expensive on the wallet, but they are quality tested. Link below if you want those checked:
Laserglow Technologies

Honestly, If I were you I would maybe consider getting the 589 w/ beam expander being sold by one of our members. It's being sold at a great price & will get you introduced to higher power exotics

Best of luck!

LaserGlow tends to increase their prices a little bit too much. They make you pay for all the testing, customer service and reputation, and name they are known for

But I meant that member is charging more for a (dragonlasers?) Spartan series 589nm laser that costs less money brand new. So why is he charging more than its worth new when his is used?
