Probably not. Otherwise the professionals would of made them more accessible by now.

The company has not responded to my email either. Something is fishy here. Hopefully it is the fault of whoever sold them the diodes, but I am not optimistic.

Well yeah ... someone that just had DPSS/Resonators/HR-OC mirrors explained to them last week (In very basic terms too) isn't going be making a batch of diodes any time soon.

Maybe some time down the line if he has access to a University lab or some such with the equipment required to do such a thing. I don't imagine many Uni labs even have that sort of equipment. Even then, it's not going to be the same quality that N!ch!4 or Osram are producing, and a small batch of diodes won't be cheap either.

Not bashing, I just like to be realistic. :)

To be fair, making a diode has a lot more to do with semiconductors and crystallography than it does laser science, and his University does supposedly have an epitaxy chamber. Though I'd agree with you that there is a slim at best chance that it's every going to happen.

I brought it up because it's the only hope we have left for 488nm diodes, even if it's highly unrealistic.

True, although the laser knowledge would also be invaluable. That's some pretty complex materials/semiconductor science too.

Ehh, there may be some application for them that comes along and makes them more widespread. I remember several people being thoroughly annoyed when the c4s!0 diodes first arrived because they had just dropped >$500 a piece on some (500mW?) 445 diodes. It may never happen, but the future is uncertain.

For now I'm going to stick to gas and used OPS lasers if they ever show up again for a good price. :D

This is my dream 488 right now! Definitely a pipe dream for me right now but who knows a year from now...

It really is too bad. I was totally looking forward to 488nm diodes. This forum has been pretty stagnant this year (through no fault of its own, there just hasn't been anything new or exciting). This would've really helped. :(

Now all we can do is hope HydroSean's diode project goes well.

My undergrad Uni has two epitaxial growth chambers they use for growing crystals for solid state battery research. They also have SEMs and other powerful imagery instrumentation. But, yeah after much toil in research I concluded that growing my own diode is a little too far fetched. BUT I think I would be able to make either a ~490 or ~560 DPSSL

As I said before, start with 532nm using hybrid crystals and work your way up from there... ~490 or ~560 (492nm by SFG and 561nm by SHG I take it you're thinking of) are going to be much harder and much more expensive. Easier to start from the bottom and work your way up... but still hard. :p

Another day goes by and still no response. Tomorrow will be a full week they have had to reply about sending the wrong lasers. I guess they have no interest in responding. looks like they took over 1K and sent maybe $50 worth of diodes. That is a pretty good markup. Literally I think they looked in their junk drawer and just sent out what was sitting in there. I know I said hold off from bombarding them but I have given them plenty of time to reply. Maybe if they get bombarded with hundreds of questions about deceptive sales tactics they might get a little hot in the seat about responding to this. Feel free to email them asking what happened. Maybe ask if Osram is aware they are selling counterfeit products. Let them know the laser community was all a buzz and excited for these and would like a response. This thread has over 12K views and I can't believe knowing as they did how many were watching they would do that. Not a good way to build a good reputation.

Anyway if anyone feels like sending a message.

^Indeed!

532nm is a pretty easy process but it'd be a good idea to master that first so you get a good solid ground. From there, moving up to 473nm would most likely be the next step as it's a little more challenging, but doable with enough time and funds. Finally, you'll be able to attempt 593.5nm :D

I hope everyone takes a minute to send an email to these decietfull WANKER'S,
If they were in Australia I would even pay them a visit,

It's the least we can do!
