I think the first batch (assuming they are legit) should be limited to those with access to appropriate test equipment and experience. Which if you meet that criteria, then fair enough.

After testing has been completed the next batches should be made available to the general community.

That's how I'd go about it at least.

Well I have a cheap spectrometer I made and could do some simple spectrometry with it but yeah it's only really accurate to the nm.

I do have an RoHS certified laser power meter at my work. Which would give an RoHS certified power reading for the exact Amperages.

That, I think, and the person who found them in the first place.
...Right? :D

I think that'd be fair haha! :D

Power meter is good - for spectro I'd personally like to see it done on a proper, calibrated/certified spectrometer. Not only would we get more accurate results, we could more easily get a wider range of information. How do different currents affect the wavelength? How do different temperatures affect the wavelength? That sort of thing.

But hey - not up to me! Just putting my thoughts out there. I meant no offense. :D

If it all turns out good I'm sure he will order many more.
Like he said before he will put them up on his site after testing!

Just bought a Hyperion lpm... Does that count?? :D

Sounds like a large amount of people are wanting a small amount of diodes. I'll keep out for now but once confirmed these are legit and in larger quantities let me know

I agree.

I've got an Ocean Optics spectro that I never bothered to get working, does that count?

I've always wondered how I managed to get my hands on a spectrometer before an LPM. :wtf:

Getting a working Ocean Optics spectrometer calibrated, on the correct platform and getting the software to get it running are all fairly expensive endeavors in addition to having the spectrometer. I know from personal experience and the help of the Ocean Optics engineers. But, I'm not actually in the running for this diode. :D

I've got the PCI card installed (it's an older model), the only thing I'm missing is the main connector from the spectro to the card itself. Given the yellow, green, and red HeNe lines, as well as all of the lines from a multiline argon, how hard would it be to calibrate? As for the software, I'm sure I can work something out.

I'm not in the running either, really. I'll leave this one to the guys with the high-precision equipment.

The answers to those questions will become obvious, if you ever try to get it going. I thought very much like you are now when I bought mine. It's never as easy as it seems.

Just decided to check back today. Looks like chances are pretty good. :D

Excited to see how DTR's purchase went. I'd definitely be in for one.

It would probably be interesting to compile a graph of "Chances of 488nm Diodes Being Real" through the 17 pages of this thread.

I wasn't sure how to feel on the matter since I've only been reading in several week intervals.

For a while, I worried LPF was going to go spam the company into never selling them or accepting new inquiries. Then it looked like a ripoff, and now this.

Oh well, it should be decently obvious as soon as one is powered up.
