I gotta ask. Why have I heard of only 1 person ever even try this diode out? Why does nobody talk about it? Come on now, somebody besides me,rhd, and the followers of that other 635nm thread have to know something about this?

I have been so broke the past few weeks. I have been bored. I need/want to build something now.
BUT I am going to wait, for now...

My questions are,
1. Why does nobody have a working version of this diode/build on the forums?
2. Is there something BAD about these? They are single mode diodes.
3. Why no info about them on here? Yeah there's a specsheet, but no other relative info.

I just want to know anything/everything about anybody's experiences with these, or why nobody wants them?

There is some info on photonlexicon.
I currently have 2 HL6385DG 150mw 642nm diodes that are going in my projector. As soon as I have my 8 diode combiner working, I will buy 2 HL63133DG 170mW 635nm.
There is nothing bad about these diodes. In fact, people prefer the HL63133DG because it has an isolated case. You can buy both of these diodes from Francesco (on photonlexicon) for about 120 euros if I recall correctly.

I suspect they are more popular with the projector crowd than the pointer crowd because the former usually have larger budgets.

I think its because they are 4 times as expensive as even the most expensive common diodes like 445nm and 12X BR. I myself almost bought one but ended up buying two HeNes and PSUs for a mere faction of that price...yes they are low power but I already have 635nm.

I would love to see a build with one however! If anyone is on the fence I say go for it...which is easy to say when its not my money haha

Ditto on all of that. I have a couple red hene's running here and bought a green and yellow hene for a little more than what that would have cost.

I have several diode red's that are over 250mw output if I want something for my pocket, although they are 650nm.

I saw the 635 diodes on photonlexicon, but ouch on price. I have trouble justifying $40-50 diodes for the last 4 blu-ray and 445's I purchased, I'm middle class and the price is out of my range. I will wait for a price drop.

hene's aren't pocketable, but my melles griot 14" I have as a night light in the living room runs 24/7 and has for about 2 years. ZERO problems. OTOH, one little zap from me and some static or soldering or ? and I just threw away $$$ on that red diode. I've done it with enough other ones to think twice, IMHO.

But still, 170mW of 635nm, or 200mW of 637-639 is as bright as a 600+mW 650

I just want a nice red beam to add to my collection, the 250mW LOC isn't cuttin it
