Default High power UV diodes?

Hey,

I've built a few lasers by now using all the info you guys have kindly provided. I know there are plenty of 405 nm, high power laser diodes and sleds that are obviously plentiful because of their main Blu-ray applications.

I am having trouble, though, finding high power (400-600 mW range) UV diodes. 405 nm would be a bit high, so I was thinking of diodes in the order of 375 nm and below.

Any ideas where I might be able to find one? The common places have UV diodes but they are maybe 50 mW in power, which is not sufficient for our application. Other than using a 3rd or 4th harmonic YAG type laser, we wanted to see if we can find an alternate, less expensive route.

Do you have a link for those 50mW UV diodes?

Probably because they aren't being made commercially. You'd almost need to set up a deal with one of the diode manufacturers to make something like that... and it won't be cheap.

Ah..Yea, good luck man. Your best bet would be Nichia, but they won't so much as look in your direction unless you are with a company they can look up and verify.

Other than frequency tripled/quadrupled YAG there isn't much in the way of UV (unless you find a working UV HeCd or ArIon). Diodes do exist but they are $2000 and up because there was never any application for them developed so they never went into mass production.

You can't toss a comment like that out there, and then not come through with some links

Please direct us to a few of these places. Apart from Thorlabs, I haven't seen even 50mW diodes available for actual purchase, let alone at common sources. I would be very interested in these diodes.

In what? UV diodes are not readily available, and not available at all in high powers...

Frequency doubled argon, third/fourth harmonic generation of Nd:YAG as others have said.

You're not going to get much of anything high powered in the diode area, even the low powered diodes are prohibitively expensive. Even low wavelength LEDs are expensive.
