I wish i cold help you- BUT.. no advice can cover every location-PLEASE add your city to your personal profile-- no location bad advice (maybe)

if you happen to be in the USA I am the source of batts for JETLASRS (< that is their name jet laser is another company.)

FYI there is no 1w laser-- 1 W yes 1000mW yes
(same power)
prices ATM are low because there is a sale going on (about to end) JL does sell afew that are fixed focus but most are focsuable and that is CLEARLY told when you make your choice, Fixed focus is cheaper.

here are your options with JL-
445nm 1200 mW- uses two rechargeable 16340,on sale at $210 add 40$ for shipping from China or 20$ shipped from me( you can see where i am at by looking left and up)
I can include 16340s at 7$ each- add intelligent nitecore smart charger for another $15-- get a cheapass charger na dmaybe set your home on fire..

the other is a very popular laser right now- there is a waitng list to get the 473nm Blue (DPSS) $340 (rated as 10 to 30 mW but typically more than 60 mW from JL in china or $320 direct from me. this one uses ONE 26650($10 each)

Also good are Optronics/LaserGlow/ btb/ and Sky lasers- for the best deal on a 445 read what there is offered in the BS &T section- fellow LPF members is often the best way to go. (just choose one that is a trusted vet here ONLY)

One thing you say troubles me/us- skin burning?? really ? you think that is a GOOD thing??

TBA primarily the new and young members consider lighting balloons and popping matches as 'good' things. see my list of lasers??

i have not messed with burning things for years-- Any activities that make laser hobbiests look like idiots is VERY bad for us. I pray you never think taking a laser to school would be wise.

Any use around the public is against the law- its a felony- intentional use around aircraft is NOW a Federal Offence-- and they do not fool around-

The best outcome you can expect is a big ass fine and of course you will never see your laser again.. Good luck I think you will need it. hak

im glad i could help you out. the guy above you is hak, who i mentioned was the US rep for JL. might be worth talking to him before you make a final decision since he knows JLs inside and out, where as i do not

EDIT: those are some good glasses, first pair i bought for mt 1.5W 445nm. Gary at SL is a great guy and will get those out for you ASAP, just hope USPS doesnt mess up and send the package to Puerto Rico for sorting like they did with mine once! darn USPS!!!!!!

thats good to know -- for a while we (JL ) were giving free eye ware but no longer also no batts are shipped form China JL- The have me ship those for them-

if you cannot afford good grade of eyeware get whatever you can for now - then later buy better and use you old pair as 'guest goggles'

only owning one pair is safe when you are alone- i do not wear mine very often- BUT ALWAYS when metering or taking measurments of spot sizes to do divergence.

I normally have them around my neck removing when i am VERY sure I am in the safe zones. many accidents happen by reflection- windows and mirrors can be the worst. only a very quick flash to the eyes is needed to do serious damage. I have a friend who got injured while wearing glasses- the beam came from BEHIND-it bounced of the glasses and into his eye-
we had several member get injured from the outside rear view mirror of their car-

they had laser in one hand and camera in the other= sticking out the car window- one slip and the laser hits the mirror and reflected back into thier eyes- the damage does NOT heal- you will actually feel NO pain (eyes have no pain receptors)comparing cost of eye surgery and good eyeware will say its a no brainer --

also only the very expensive cover all colors- so what works for red may not or green or blue.

I own 10 pairs of eyeware- when I have a party at my house all moving about must wear these- i insist they do this and only when seated and sure of being in a save zone can they take them off. I expect those not knowledgeable about laser to do nothing right- Handing a laser to one that is ignorant will often end badly- they ususally look directly into the laser if they THINK it is not on or working just we all have done hundreds of time with a common flashlight-

1st +3 for adding your location.

I cannot remember ever hearing about customs issues related to JETLASER coming into USA. They use the most expensive shipping option and NOT for their crazy fast speed 9 (I got a package in 60 hours once)

If you want even a better , cheaper and ZERO chance of customs issues just order thru me- you only pay after your laser comes to me- and save 20$ in the shipping too.
As you may be coming to me anyway for batteries (& or charger)shipping all at the same time makes $$ sense- the only trade-off is how quick you get delivery - it takes extra days for me to inspect and meter for all buyers- I send each an email with LPM photos and THEN you pay me. if I do not like the laser I will NOT send it. it will most likely go back to China or be sold for less it the output is below JL standards- ( that has not happened very often) -- I have been doing Gbs for JL for 3 years 8 so far..
Now gray from JL has made buying much easier as no more waiting on the last to pay up'
you pick- you pay

it gets delivered
read the feedback for us. all very good- in fact-- i no longer even have to use PPal- no need-no worries- they all send me money orders- cheaper faster and safer than Poopal

You DO know that PP will not knowingly allow its use for ANY laser over 5mW/ right??

In very many cases tho-- buying a used laser from a trusted VET member at LPF is the very best way to go - try to find on that is local - any who live in RI cant BE VERY FAR AWAY (LOL)-

also some kits a super easy to finish they are basically completed lasers taken apart so you can put it back together -EZ!!

you can make a new thread in BS &T " WTB 445 1W laser''-- I have seen nice ones go for less then the parts cost-- just take your time and do your homework -

The focus is the ring behind the crown- JL has been the only maker that has an internal focus-- the moving parts are all inside-
The Pro Pl-e is Jls newest version- no more non Pros are being made- so these are on sale as close-outs.
here are the major improvements
1) LENS CAP-- Threaded- keep the crud for getting on the front lens
2) addition of a tripod 'hole' BUT i do noy suggest you ahndle the laser while on a tripod as the threads are VERY shalllow- only move about with two hands- one on the laser
3) improved jack for ther ac/dc adapotor this wall wart will also charge the battery inside
4) smoother finish and a better feel in your hand.
5) new wavelengths- the blue 473 nm DPSS is just now being offered- none were made before the Pro PL-E 473 NOW on sale now for $320 shipped from me and $340 from China (there is however a waiting list)it is sold as 10 to 30mW but they all so far make more than 60mW- this may sound to some as too much $$ for to little mW but they are wrong..see the prices at LaserGlow.. 445s are direct diode not the same as DPSS
6) improved metal 'ON' button the older rubber one sometimes had issues.

also these are all lower in price than the older PL _E were before the current sale.

I have a 532nm Green Pl-E (Not Pro)~600 mW new with full 6 month warranty for only 500$.

Last one left afaik.

hope my reply has helped---Hak
