Just because I know him, it does not mean he has not found an outlet for a Nichia diode which MAY fit this criterion. I know he was using some of my diodes (405nm) a long time ago. He understands lasers well. Just a bit eccentric.

Here is the diode he is referring to:

Nichia is very prowd of thier Blue & UV LD's, so it is not cheap, unless some large company decided to use it and it was extracted. My opinion only. But the diode does exist.

OK, Robin is a good guy, always came into my store. Always experimenting on new stuff. He is very smart.

There absolutely is a diode made by Nichia as I posted previously above which is in that output and wavelength range. My doubt is how cheap they can be purchased. Nichia is VERY, VERY proud of their technological prowess with UV and Blue LED and Laser Technologies. We can contact Nichia, but last quote I got for a 405nm 80mW laser diode in 9mm can was well OVER 1000$US

Im not sure if Nichia sells outside distribution, but only direct.

Here is the link for the diode I believe is being used.

Sometimes companies offer products that they have made in "thought", this laser diode could EASILY be used with any CC driver and therefore, the first order may pay for the actual diode(s) - my $0.02

Madmac==still glad you brought all this up. How you handled the info that followed speaks volumns. :)

I have never met or heard of this Rob, but we sure know more now than before. :thanks:Thanks Mitch for replying so fast. I would have been very surprized if you had said you never heard of him. :undecided:
I have met you twice, enjoyed the visits and learned new knowledge each time. As far as Rob being 'a bit eccentric' hmmmm?? who here is not?? lmfao.:shhh:

Here is the email I got back.

We will be happy to help you with your project. It seems interesting.

Currently, we have the Price of $1,270 per LASER Diode, of the Type LDH40015G. In multiples of 10 pieces or more, the Price drops down to $995 (each) per device. For the Output Power of these Devices (398 -401 nm) with 400 - 500 milliwatts Output, it represents a real "Breakthrough" in Power at this Wavelength. Please note that the Price does not include shipping. However, the Parts are Compact, and lightweight, therefore the shipping price is typically low. The above relates to current Pricing for the devices. We feel that if there is enough demand for them, that there will be a Price reduction at some point in the future. Only the rate of Purchase will dictate this, in our opinion.

I've attached a (Preliminary) Data Sheet for Our Devices, as we feel that this will help You to Design Your Test Setup. Please let US know if we can be of more service to you and your project.

Thank You very kindly,

What a breakthrough! Anyone in for a group buy?

Really, the only thing broken is their awareness of the laser diode market.

It doesnt even include shipping. You'd think he'd roll the $2 into the price. At a $1000+ a piece an extra $2 doesnt seem like much

Shipping would probably be insured, it might just be $20, a whopping 0.2% if you buy 10 diodes. Those things matter.

I hear that his thousand-dollar diodes also come pre-heatsinked, pre-soldered (to a ribbon cable), and include some free blu-ray drive optics attached to give you inspiration in your product design.

It's a great deal for $1k.
