Is that my old diode?

if it is I see it's doing pretty good, driving it a bit harder than I did.

if you have the same 18350s I have, the 800mAh ones, that driver will suck 'em dry quick. that level of power drained mine fast when I had it running @3.5A, as does my new 465 driven @ the same current

Hi Shake,
I knew you would smell this thread LOL !! Yes my man it is your diode, finally got around to putting it in a really sweet host. I run all my NDB7A75's at 4A with great sinking they do quite well. I have the same diode in my 20mm shell build i did some tie back when Ed Crouse was still machining hosts, i sure miss that man he had some awesome designs. The tail caps ,battery tubes and the sinks were all treaded separately. And the pills held 17mm drivers or contact boards in the sinks those were some nice hosts.
Yes it does eat up the cells fast but these diodes are high power oh well.My 465 runs at 470.16nm with a driver set to 5A SXD with ramp up.
Your diodes burns like mad instantly sick..
Thank you i'm enjoying this one, I though you be the first to post a reply once you seen this.
Glad you can enjoy it also..

well, looking at DTR's site, the output you have at that current is pretty close to what his page shows, a bit more even, so it certainly didnt lose any output during it's stay with me. wish i was doing as well on the 405nm front

I only sold that diode because I was getting the nubm44, and despite it's slightly worse divergence I thought it pretty much replaced this one, plus I wanted the heatsink for my 465. I'm not big on redundant wavelengths except in cases of divergence, and the nubm44 has basically the same WL as the 7A75.

I was shocked by how much lighter the 465nm is compared to my 462, I thought the difference wouldnt be as noticable. longer WL isnt as important to me as longevity and I remember DTR saying he had reports of the diode not liking 4A, so I opted to stay with the 3.5A driver the host already had for the 465nm. it rivals or maybe even equals the brightness of my nearly 1W 520

Hi,
I have an NUB44nm and a 41nm diode sitting here both will be set to 4.5A .As for your 465nm if you can get 470nm from it it will be closer the cyan WL of 500nm. that's why it's lighter than your 462nm i'm sure you know. You can run it at 5A to get closer to 470nm and thats is you can get a binned diode they can do that. DTR is very conservative in his finding which i great less casualties on the consumer end less complaints. You know were running these guys well above what they are intended for.
As for the 405 scenario i'm not doing bad at all, around 670mA SXD with a long ramp up feature mine are humming well. Still have a BDR-209 sled to work on, hope i keep up on good Karma with it.
I'm more into WL shifting a diode than divergence but i'll still play with it from time to time

Rich

well for the diodes he provides a data sheet for, it will state the max recommended current, I usually try not to exceed that by more than 20%. my 520 is running exactly at it's rated current. I suspect the 405s are being overdriven beyond that percentage yes

my 465 build uses two batteries (naturally) but can run on one at much reduced power, which also seems to lower the WL because when I do this the WL difference isnt as noticable compared to my 462. I'm sure power level plays a role too, I'm talking a difference of more than 1W

Hi ,
What 520 are you running? I have a NUG set to 2.4A/ 1400+, 2-700's set to 1.8A/1100+, a 7475 set to 2.4A/ 1500+ , a Pl520 set to 225mA/ 80+, a PLP520B set to 450mA/
405nm is a different ball game either you love them or hate them very finicky diode they get pissed off very easy. Basically they have an attitude but some are humble LOL..

got a 7475 @ 1.7A, and a pl520 @ .3A. the 7475 doesnt quite do 1W, I attribute that to the fact that the PL-E pro's lens seems more similar to a 3 element than a g lens, and the fact I am driving it at it's rated current

my pl520 used to do a bit over 100mW, but it's real old now and meters closer to 95mW. I've gotten a lot of use out of it

hi,
That 7475 can do well over 1W set at 2.4A with ease and a larger sink with no threat to.At 2.4a with a 3 element you won't loose much and the divergence would improve considerably. And that PL520 i have it in a Sinner Full CU magic pen with an X Boost so the entire host is a sink. I don't run my builds hard that's why i go in for the higher Amp's. But i must say that 7A75 i bought from you kicks it. I have a mag light that Crouse made me some time ago and the sink is enormous that has a 7A75 in it . I think i'll swept out and put in the NUB44, and for the 41diode i'll mod another Mag light 2-cell and use 2- 32650 cell i have coming. I have about 6 or 7 mag light heatsinks and a bunch of hosts. Modding them is easy done quite a few myself. The Jrob sinks are a lot less mass than the Crouse sinks. The flat faced ones not custom.

I don't remember seeing that host when it was offered. Haven't purchased one from Ehg yet although I should have when he had some really nice pen types. I wish he could come up with a side button that latched.
Nice clean build. What is the beam hitting in the second to last pic making the huge splash?
Don't think I can REP yet.

Hi Pman,
Well as for the pens he made me some awesome Full brass pens but not as small as you might want. They hold either 1 or 2 14500 cells nice and hefty. Maybe if you email him about this he can make you some CU or brass 10440 cell pens that would be really a sight to see.have purchased many hosts from Harold and at some good deals if you make a reasonable offer. Lookout his for sale threads, he can duplicate what you want. As for a side firing latching switch he can't find a size to fit in the tubes he make. I already questions him on the topic numerous times.
The beam in the pic your referring to is a dark blue tee shirt hanging on my latt pull down machine in my gym. That's 34 ft away, i used it to test my Sinner host with a 462nm diode with a 10x beam expander . It burnt holes through it at 3 to 5 seconds, and could go further.
Here's pics of the brass 14500 pen he made me.He also made me 2 more one like shown in this pic and the other takes 2 14500 cells it's longer. And the focus adapters match the hosts but not on the one shown.

the heat sink for my nubm44 is massive, well over a troy pound of copper, after a miute or so, you can still feel the warmth through 2 inches of copper so I suspect it was a good idea to go so big. ehgemus had to custom order the copper

Hi Red,
Thanks for bringing that to my attention, wasn't thinking. I did edit the thread so it's stated it's an NDB7A75 3.5W diode capable of 5+W's. Sorry Buddy

Default Re: Ehgemus/NDB7A75

What's the divergence like on that 7A75?

The 7875 with G2 is just under 3/4 inch at 15 feet.

The NUBM44 with G2 is 2.0 inches at 15 feet.

The 7A75 with G2 should be around 1.5 inches at 15 feet judging from the pic I have seen, but is it under or over 1.5 inches at 15 feet, it could be much like a NUBM06 without the GBall but with a protective can/window. Except the high price is looks better that I thought, but I was thinking 3.5 - 4.0 amps was the limit, I suppose I am looking for a freak diode, LOL

That makes the energy per mm of line actually higher for the 7A75 than the 44.

I see the 7A75's are expensive, how hard can I drive one in a big heat sink?

Would 4.25 amps be too much?

I am thinking about doing cylindrical correction and then a sanwu 3X expander, but I would like to run at over 5 watts out of the G2.

What do you think?
