hi

I would like to know what kind of driver driver a need for my 2W 808nm FAC C-mount. I already have a LM317 but i dont know if it's good ? so if is good I will change the resistance but a don't know what is the amperage for this laser ? and for my resistor how many W I will need ?

Well, without knowing what current to run it at you are kind of out of luck. Similar 2W c-mounts run off of about 2 amps so you should start close to, and under, that.

As far as a driver that supplies that much power, your probably going to have to build your own. There should be some schematics or plans somewhere around the forum if you search for "laser diode driver" or something similar.

For 2W diode you will need more than 2A.

LM317 can give you only 1.5A, for higher current you need LM350.
Everything is the same and you can push it up to 3A.

If you want to make it portable then I recommend you AMC7135.

so i can just change the lm317 by the LM305 or AMC7135 add a headsink change my resistor and it will be ok ?

Yes.
If you plan to use LM350 then you need good heatsink to cool down regulator.
Also, resistor for that current must be very big. (for 2A you need 2.5W resistor)

If you want to use AMC7135, you need to about 6-7 AMC chips connected in parallel connection. (2x "3xAMC7135 PCBs" for example).
And you can power up it with only one Li Ion battery (18650).

Yeah, both LM350 and AMC7135 will make required voltage drop.
But be aware of overheating.

Yeah, It will be.
Try to use lowest possible voltage for LM350. (6V would be great).

More input voltage = more heat

The first one is too small and will not let you use the full power of your diode safely. Either one of the other two will work fine. Snoctony is a good seller for laser parts, he has a good reputation around here from what I've heard so far.

I can't tell if the 2nd two are fused together like the first, you should ask the seller. If they are not fused you have a good bit of work ahead aligning them perfectly, its damn near impossible. There is a good thread somewhere around here where someone tried to make a green laser using 2 separate crystals and IIRC it did not turn out too well. You should find that thread because there is a lot you need to know about polarization and alignment when it comes to setting up some crystals.

it will be insanely difficult without a laser power meter. I suggest you look for one that is joined or get a power meter :p

i would try to find a joined crystal it will cost cheaper :p do you have a idea where a can find it ?
