Hey.

Just got a mail from dreamlasers. They seem to have launched a new 50mW 488nm direct diode. I have asked for pricing. It will probably be too expensive for me. But one can always hope. :)

Updated:

50mW 488nm diode laser module
SDL-488-LM-050T
power adjustable, current display
Unit Price: US$7,200.00

:cryyy: :wtf:

They also seem to have started doing 656nm and 660nm DPSS red modules.

Quote from their mail:

DreamLasers said:
473nm 200~600mW high output power low noise laser
473nm SLM Version Max 150mW
Other new SLM Version: 523nm; 1064nm and 1342nm
488nm 50mW diode laser

New laser system special for neurological biology experiment:
589 + 473nm fiber coupled: Brain Stimulus Illumination System
593 + 473nm fiber coupled: Brain Stimulus Illumination System
561 + 473nm fiber coupled: Brain Stimulus Illumination System

OEM LM low noise lasers 440nm; 442nm; 445nm; 447nm and 473nm for imaging equipment

With good beam quality red laser: DPSS 656nm&660nm

They're just little itty bitty diodes... why do they have to sell them for so much...:yabbmad:

Start mass producing and make everyone else happy. :scowl:

Yeah. Very inconsiderate of them not to take us hobbyists into account ;)

I btw asked for price quotes at hand held red DPSS lasers with their new red modules. But got a negative reply back. They did however recommend a 655nm module of theirs for hand held, and attached following picture for beam profile:

Asked for pricing and additional specifications on these. It looks very round and pretty if it is in fact a direct diode.

Looks like the sun itself. I would think it would be a direct diode... I mean why would they make it out of dpss when diodes already exist to work upon?

We're long due for high power red anyway don't you think

The reason people want red DPSS lasers is because of their beam quality, which is amazing compared to a direct diode.

I cannot even wrap my head around the amount of money that little tiny diode costs for its size. If only these were even half way reasonable.. they must look amazing.

Don't forget to wear a static wrist strap or three.

488nm laser light is special. It can be had from gas lasers, diodes, and DPSS systems.
