Cool DL vs. LG: Which 5mW 589nm Pointer?

I know how terrible and ridiculous and hilariously frivolous a yellow pointer is, but I just can't get over the elitism of owning one!! As such, I am deciding between Laserglow's Rigel HV (the 5mW one, of course) and Dragon Lasers' 5mW Aurora model. They both appear to have identical statistics, and they look suspiciously identical physically, too...! I know that Laserglow is pretty much the best of the best when it comes to laser companies, but I have no experience at all when it comes to Dragon Lasers. Remember, I'm only looking for a FIVE milliwatt pointer, not a burner, so it's a question of quality and price. Is the Rigel HV much higher quality than the Aurora, and if so, is it worth about $200 extra? Thanks so much for your thoughts!

Both are essentially the same laser, that come from the same company(DL & LG are just re-sellers). Honestly, I would go with DragonLasers. Not only is it much cheaper, but their units then to be overspec so you'll get a little more power for your money

Well, yes, that would be nice, but I want to stay at 5mW or under, because I don't want to be responsible for anything stronger yet. Even 10mW is higher power than is safe for blink reflex, so I don't know if it's a risk I can take. What do you think?

As long as you are careful when you use it, 10mW's is still on the "lower" spectrum of dangerous lasers. Yes, it can potentially cause eye damage, but it's like everything, if you are careful then you'll enjoy the more 589 photons! If you want to be extra safe, buy some safety goggles:
Eagle Pair® 190-400nm & 560-640nm Laser Safety Goggles

LaserGlow guarantees <5mW pointer so it really is up to you

There are the same laser module placed in the same host. I do not know about the Aurora, but the laser glow one has light feedback added at the company's request, and an IR filter as well supposedly. I don't know if DL has requested these added. They should in practice perform and be built exactly the same though.

Both are <5mW and should not exceed that rating. They typically do 3-4mW

That's really helpful, thanks so much!! I'll ask DL if they include IR filter and negative energy feedback.

All DragonLasers lasers come from CNI(which produces them) & they include IR filters on their lasers

What about a feedback mechanism for constant brightness, like in LG's? Do you know?

If you get one that is way over spec, you could sell it very easily.
I'm actually debating with myself over getting one.

Buy from DragonLasers, not Laserglow. Both DL and LG are just selling rebagged CNI lasers -- however, Laserglow marks up the price on their lasers a whole lot more.

Better yet, I'd get one through the group buy that's being worked out in the Group Buy section. $340 for the 5mW 589nm "Rigel HV" before any extra GB discounts; $280 if we get 10. Compare that to LG charging you a whopping $490 for their 5mW variant. DragonLasers is at least only charging $320 for theirs.
