Re: Custom $1000 589 laser

Beautiful work triple B, you made it nice and thick too, :gj:

Bill is fine buddy Bill is my name,

Yes this module likes it cold and with the mass every time I pick it up it's cold so it should have an unlimited run time,

The whole brass module is heatsinked extremely well so the C mount diode can spread its love all over, unlike in the PGL C!

It is also easily pressed out if needed so I can add my fibre optic PCB led illumination cable when it arrives.

Totally jealous. Have you power graphed it yet?

Re: Custom $1000 589 laser

Are there any of those 589nm heads listed for sale online? If you posted the info before in another thread my apologies, I can be sporatic on reading and miss too much from that. ADHD gets me too, probably why.

I did a quick test when I first got the module on my high power LPM not sure how accurate at this power it is but my VDL LPM hovers around 20-30mw depending on temp in the house and I got a reading of around 90mw so I would say it's about 50mw, however it does seem more powerful than before now that it's in a huge heatsink!

I'm not sure what 589 heads you mean but I thought you knew this module was from Dragon Lasers! No need to apologise for anything!

Dragon, OK, was thinking CNI for some reason, perhaps that is where they get them, I don't know. I haven't been following what is happening in the laser manufacturer market at all, but for yellow, I need to :)

I should have guessed though, due to that Dragon Lasers Spartan thread :)

Would be wonderful to see how they put the crystals together to make yellow, but you bought a sealed unit and no way would I, or you, tinker with that, too expensive and probably all glued together anyway.

Incredible BBB! :) What a good job. +rep from me.

Also, if want to estimate the beam specs such as the divergence then just measure the beam (B dia1&2) at two specific distances (d1&2). It is best to use a vernier to measure the spot. Then use this equation:
(B dia2 [mm] - B dia1 [mm])/(d2 [m] - d1 [m])=Divergence [mRad]

Alaskan--you're right CNI is the only manufacturer making yellow modules for hand hand helds and complete hand helds.
Dragon Lasers makes nothing they just retail resell CNI products.

You can see details here: http://www.cnilaser.com/PDF/PGL-H-589.pdf

If you have yellow fever CNI has a lot to offer including some new and refreshed designs--see here Yellow Laser, 589 nm yellow DPSS lasers.

Alaskan, the modules come from CNI.

Here's a thread with a teardown:

Yep the module took 3 weeks to build, I did say the module was from DL not that they made it, However they do have an engineer at DL that had a video made up for me on how to install the module but I said I didn't need it,

But who knows, this is from Adam!

Hi bill,

It seems that you have assemble the laser successfully. I would like to say congratulation and what a skill.

You are right that most of our laser pointers beam are not perfectly aligned to its housing. It had been like this for roughly 15 years.
If there is special attention the alignment could be good otherwise it just depends on luck. The workers are still using skills which are out of date.

Best Regards

Adam

Send Adam some pictures of your build and host or a link to this thread. He will get to see what a really good host/pointer looks like with CNI module installed.

Re: Custom $1000 589 laser

That is some very nice machine work you've done here. It is the nicest yellow DPSS laser I've ever seen. Was wondering what the power output on it is. +rep.

Re: Custom $1000 589 laser

I wasn't aware that DL sold just the module when I bought my spartan:( otherwise I might have attempted to do that:D

Amazing builds as always! Really a neat laser you've got now:beer:

Yes he was anxious to see the host I build, I'll do that soon just got home from work.

Thank you Hap!

Thanks Paul like I said in the last few replies it is about 50-60mw, would have loved more this wavelength is so nice but I can't complain, if there was a 100mw module I would consider selling this eventually and upgrading, but not right know, need to enjoy my precision work for a while!

Thanks Lildutchboy7
Yeah it took a lot of convincing that I could assemble it and it was my only option here in Sydney, it doesn't come with warranty either so if something went wrong well there would be another tear down H module thread!
