Can someone post a side by side of a 594 and a 589?

I'm looking into a yellow pointer. I just want to see if someone has both and can do a side-by-side of the two in action :)

thanks guys!

Not really possible to capture on camera. A lot of folks say the difference is not visible; and that the only differences I've seen are due to power.

I disagree with that; I have a 15mW and 50mW 594, and a 5mW and 90mW 589. In all cases, at least to me, side by side and even alone, the 594 is decidedly more amber than 589. The 589 is more yellow.

5mW -can- make a visual difference; (640 vs 635 certainly does.) - But the color gamut of most digital cameras really can't tell the difference. You'd have to see it.

Thanks aryntha, I figured as much. I know there is a noticable cost difference between the two. I think I will end up going with the cheaper of the two, probably something used like a PGL that's a year or so old but with 50mw

What I've found is -- the higher power the yellow DPSS, the more stable it is. If you can get something ~50mW, it'll likely be pretty stable. Under 15mW, not so much.

That's my experience with 7 DPSS yellows... I'd also go with PGL, the GLP 589s seem to be notoriously unreliable.

On the other hand, the old Rigels and GLP-594s for some reason seem to be rock solid. My Rigel-2 is still a workhorse; it was the first laser that wasn't "green or red" that I ever got, when I joined LPF. Still works like a champ. Unstable, but no different than the day I got it, 4 years ago or so.

Wow, thanks aryn, I have an old 2002 green pointer that's still a workhorse also, I did pay 120$ new for it though! I guess it would make sense that you could get more stability with 50-100mw from a DPSS like that right? With something like <15 I would think it would have trouble staying warm
