...Or does this thing actually have to light up first? ;D

As you can see, I got my second 6x drive today. The first one is resting happily in my computer, being used for its intended purpose. This one, on the other hand, is going to be ripped apart tonight. Here are some pictures, I'll be adding more as I tear it apart. (starting in about 10 minutes)

I was hoping I could have it all finished by tonight, Unfortunately my new DMM isn't here yet. I'm also waiting on the driver. So if all goes well I should have some beautiful 100mW 405nm pictures up by friday.

Wish me luck

I finished extracting the diode about an hour ago, I didn't get the heat sink off yet, but I figure its a good place to stop until tomorrow. More pictures to follow, I just gotta upload them all.

So i pulled the diode out of the heat sink and everything is looking good, except one small thing. When I look at the window of the 405nm diode, it looks almost like its loose. Its not broken or scratched or anything, it just looks like its not glued in place. When I shake the diode I can hear a tiny tick (shifting window). It doesn't look like it will cause any problems, as it cant shift enough to obscure the light path or anything like that. I guess we'll just see what happens.

Other than that everything went smooth!

Nerve racking isn't it? Different than working with a $30 dollar drive. It wasn't till my 3rd 'high dollar' harvest that I started to relax.

Hope that window is alright. Hemlock Mike mentioned that he had problems with a window on one of his. Was it already loose? Or, do you think that it got loose during the extraction?

I really cant tell if I knocked it loose or what. If i did, I have no idea when or how. Hopefully tonight everything will power up. As we speak I'm waiting for the mailman to bring me the rest of my goodies.

Gus --
I knocked my window loose on the first one :( I think a portion of the glue edge got in front of the beam and I smoked that LD :'( I warned people to be careful with the front ends on these.
I sent mine to DrLava for microscope analysis.
Good Luck
