Re: brillant new blue Nichia diode. NDB7675 PIX

According to rhd it would have a WL of 464nm

Hey - careful ;)

I tested one at 464nm, but I never said that another one "would" have a WL of 464nm too.

In fact, experience with Nichia blues would suggest that the variance from diode to diode is reasonably substantial. +/- 5nm is nothing special, and I've frequently seen 10nm or more separating two Nichia diodes from the same source.

And before anyone takes my 464nm figure coupled with the +/- 5nm comment as an indication that these diodes are "459 to 469nm", remember that we have no idea where the single diode I tested falls into the distribution. Maybe it was itself the +5nm outlier, suggesting that these range from 454 to 464, and yours is the -nm outlier at 454. Or maybe mine was a -5nm outlier, and these range from 464 to 474, and yours is the +5nm outlier at 474nm :)

What I can absolutely positively guarantee you about your individual diode, is that it's blue ;)

I wonder if any USA spectro owners would be willing to measure mine once I build it. For rare diodes I want to know for sure what I have.

Re: brillant new blue Nichia diode. NDB7675 PIX

I gotcha rhd. Testing for WL would be done on a case by case basis because each diode varies. Either way the readings you got were interesting. I'm curious to see what results other people get. Also I know a murder fund was mentioned; id throw in for that although I know it's temporally put on hold.

Allow me to pose a question: IF these diodes are in fact binned NDB7875 diodes Does that mean this diode could be pushed to 2.4A? At that current what would that wavelength be? I know it would probably get hot and die but it's just a thought.

Allow me to pose a question: IF these diodes are in fact binned 3.5 NDB7675 diodes than the max Amperage rating is 3A. Does that mean this diode could be pushed that far? At that current what would that wavelength be? I know it would probably get hot and die but it's just a thought.

DTR seems to have held on to stock all week (the buy button is still there), so perhaps these aren't as scarce as I was worried they would be. I'll revisit the murder fund idea now.

They're $209 (incl shipping to Canada) from DTR right now. I'll toss in the first $29. A reminder to all that this has been discussed (in another thread) as a true murder fund. This isn't a GB, or raffle, etc. A diode death will occur.

The only slight modification over the previous discussion is that I may not murder the diode that's currently in my possession, because I want to use that myself this weekend. I'll be ordering a fresh diode from DTR (at least, if the murder fund is something that goes forward). That also brings the benefit of knowing that we're testing the same diode the forum has access to through DTR, rather than the diode I bought off eBay (which is probably the same diode, but it would be nice to eliminate that variable from the equation).

Nobody send any money at this stage - just a show of hands for now - but assume that if we hit the target immediately, or tomorrow, etc, we'd want to move on it quickly, so please no tentative or "next pay check" offers of contribution. And I'll say to everyone - please don't feel pressure to contribute. This murder fund is a luxury, not a necessity, it's not essential that it go forward ;)

You mean binned NDB7875 diodes right(old 9mm 445's). The 3.5W NDB7A75 is a completely different beast.

Hey DTR, just want to make sure. You did get my payment right?

As for murder fund, until we know if more will come it seems foolish to destroy one for data many will never need.

Ok rhd put me in for $30 Also.

Yes, got my diode numbers mixed up. I'll fix that^^
