Haha, lucky me ;D. My glasses get dark in the sun and acts like sunglasses. When i point my blu-ray at them they get black in a instant and protect my eyes. This does not work with green or red lasers though.
That's a fun trick. My friend has glasses like that and we used to draw on it with my blu-ray.

Kinda OT but this reminded me of these Paintball goggles (I think) my friend with those sweet glasses has. They block more green light than my goggles from Opto!

OK i need an answer definitely.

A blue ray diode laser (which is 405nm?) at 2-3 mW is eye safe for brief DIRECT accidental exposures/ reflections?

I have a choice of either a BR or a greenie for a 6 year old and she wants violet (fav colour). But if its not safe then i cant do it....

Only if it's <2.5mW as <5mw is the max for general visible range, as that is low enough power to not do any permanent damage during the time it takes to blink. As 405nm is more readily absorbed, <3mw would be the highest I'd go.
IMO, <5mw green pointer would be far better as it allows visible beam and far brighter dot with the same safety range.

yeah I agree but blue is so uncommon and she likes that colour...

so I need to have around 2mW? blue and 4mW green? and that woudl def be safe?

Could it be that as the spectrum squeezes toward gamma more waves are packed into a smaller space. Like the difference between getting hit by a rock vs. high explosive shrapnel travelling 7000 fps.

Consult this picture for the IR output of a blue laser...
