it IS possible - and not just in fairy land!
it's possible in 3d renderers such as 3DsMaX
all you need to do is create a light (spot) with a narrow beam and a NEGATIVE light multiplier - it then sucks light out of the scene...
it could also be done in computer game engines too - i'm sure with interesting effects...
