There's a slight price difference, there were quite a number of 10mW heads going for less than $150, sometimes even $100. That probably won't happen again.

That Sapphire is a higher power unit. Many Argons can't even get up to 100mws!

I have a protera. Nice little laser.

But, in the never-ending search for beam quality and stabilization, I mis-aligned it, and haven't had the motivation to re-align it even though it would probably only take about a half hour of tinkering.

Ditto on that one. Id love to have 488.

Daguin and Laserman121 had their protera 488's at SELEM and I was envious.

Yep. And I ran Zack's on the spectrometer while I was there and it is indeed right at 488nm

that laser is much cheaper because it is 1/5 the power and is only the laser head (no controller/PSU).
Edit: Trevor just beat me to it

add about $500 to the price of the head to get all the parts

I've heard that they can sometimes run in a "tight" TEM33.

So these lasers came out of the same equipment their spectrometers did. Interesting. I bet they are making a killing off these since whatever they came out of was probably surplussed and bought by them for next to nothing.

Probably shouldn't have but I just bought one, though I really just want the pickup head for use with my spectrometer.

Anyone willing to post a review when they receive that fiber coupled unit? It looks interesting

^^^^ I second that. I have been looking at this unit for a while, but was unsure about what exactly I would do with it. :D

I should've jumped on those 30mw units before they sold out but unfortunately I didn't know about them.
