Nice :) , So it does seems to be significantly different than the 445nm diodes.

Really liked the pictures ! Thanks for sharing

Yeah this is a completely different beast. I keep turning it on randomly.

Great work. Glad to see the driver was replaced without any problems and that host is one of the best I have seen. Awesome build.

I love it! Just about shat my pants when I saw the driver. The worst part was not knowing if the pins were still attached. Had to finish cutting off the back half. Was lucky.

Nice! I'd rep you but I can't. I was going to do something similar to this, but a bit bigger! looks kickass! gotta love blue...that's such a beautiful color

I'll take that rain check :p

Awesome build! That color is too alluring. Think I know where my next paycheck is going. +1

I hope you all enjoyed this build. I am running at 2.4A and have ZERO regrets...so far.

First of all congrats on the build! It's beautiful.. I hope to be doing one soon as well too.

Secondly, You are running it at 2.4A? Isn't the dropoff for these diodes like 1.8 or 1.9? Or is that the only driver you could find?

Again, Congrats.

Believe me, you won't regret it! It is an amazing diode for sure. Gives me great hope for the future of diode development. I want a 490 diode stat! lol.

The drop off is around 1.9A yes. Here is my reasoning:

1. I maimed the 2A driver I had purchased for it.
2. I already wanted to push this diode for a higher wavelength. If I wanted a burner I would go for a 3.5W diode. I just wanted as close to 473 as possible in a multiwatt build.
3. I figured these were just inefficient 9mm diodes which we regularly run at 2.4A.
4. I considered rated lifetimes and that I would likely not see this build's death as I would never likely reach anywhere near 5000 hours. Even cutting life in half wouldn't affect me much.

I hope that makes sense. Hopefully I never see it die, but I sort of already consider it worth it. The color is perfection.

UPDATES:
  • I am going to be putting together a 445nm build soon so that I can do some side by side beam comparisons. This will be difficult but should be rewarding and insightful for those who are as of yet unready to take the plunge or for whom these diodes will never grace their hands.
  • Also, I am shipping it to Cyparagon for Spectrometering(is that a word?) so I should have some more info soon! Thanks again Cyp!

Update: Cyparagon has measured this laser's output to be 469nm! Which is very close to my estimation of 470nm. I am very pleased with this and also very grateful to Cyparagon for being so kind as to take time out of his day to do this for me.

Cheers

Very impressive! That's exactly what RHD predicted from his data. Can't wait to see this myself.

Fantastic!
Do you know if the 1.8A driver DTR uses can be set higher? After seeing this I'm more inclined to try 2-2.2A.

Yes, it can. I originally had him set it to 2A, but it is the same X-Drive I had in my 2.4A 9mm build, so I swapped them when the original driver met its untimely death.

Just got mine up and running. Holy crap... I could hand this to anyone on the forum, say I bought a multimode 473, and they'd believe me.

Side by side with 473 was notably different. Though admittedly not much...

Yeah it is awesome. I love the color. I hope some pics of your build will make themselves known :)

Aye, it's a bit misty outside right now... it would be ideal to take some now.

Mine's at 2.4A as well. Also using a G-lens... haven't LPM'ed yet. No issues to speak of yet :)

Got a couple of comparison shots between this and a 445nm laser I built for Xirrious. The 445nm is 3W w/ G Lens and the 469nm is 1.7W w/ 3-Element Lens.

Dammit man ! THATS the shot I've been trying to capture. In my opinion you did a beautiful job of capturing the beams. Great pic, no, fantastic pic ! I'd REP ya again but it won't let me. You don't need anymore REP anyway :) You got it goin' on and a beautiful pic !
Thanks for posting it !
