Anyone knows anything about a Pr3+ laser?

Hey, i was wondering if anyone has pics, videos, have seen one or anything else regarding a Pr3+ doped Fluoride laser...

It has some really great transitions and thats why i am asking, id love to see either a prism in front of the beam, a difraction grating, or the beam itself...i wonder what it would look like!!:drool:

So, does anyone knows anything about one of those??


(Or if u could just buy one...i guess it only comes in the form of a faser, but not sure. Maybe it also has just a normal DPSS part)

I would like to have it all clear...as we are all laser enthusiasts (and i believe specially for visible spectrum lasers) that maybe one of those vets or the sort might have one...its like the gas laser of the DPSS family.


i dunno...if people bother to buy Argon and Ar-Kr Ion lasers, why not one of these babys?

PS: For those who don't know and don't want to bother searching the lasing trasitions are the following:
-719nm:drool:
-637nm:drool:
-605nm:drool:
-523nm:drool:
-(and to end with a great color: cyan) 482nm:drool:

Also this crystals can be pumped with out beloved Nichia 445nm diodes...

I guess everyone wants to see a TEM=00 with a near 1 M^2 482 out of a crystal...and 523...and 605...and 637...and the not so great 719 :p

*2nd edit* Did u hear that?? Vivid color projectors....do i see diodes coming out of Crapio projectors with a multiline output with a near TEM=0 beam....oh yeah baby!! :drool:

PLEASE GODS OF LASERS HEAR THIS CALL (can i say Crapio are our Laser Gods now?? as they have those really great thingies) AND START BUILDUING UR PROJECTORS WITH THOOOSE! Actually...not crapio...nichia...start mass producing those little bastards! :drool:


*edit* actually ur not seeing all the Pr transitions in the movie...its missing the cyan one...and i guess the near or IR one is too faint to be seen and they also omitted it...but its great nevertheless...i thought that this Pr lasers existed for more time, as I was lectured on this doping in a Faser class...thats why i brought it up here...i thought the transitions were great!

I've been dreaming all day long with a Laby setup made by me using 3 or 4 nichias pumping a Praseodymium doped crystal transversely! and having around 500mW (admiting a very low efficience curve...around 5~7%) of a muiltiline DPSS near TEM=0 laser!

Would be so damn niiiiice! :drool:


*edit* and its an easier build than our current greenies...instead of 2 crystals, u would only have one in the laser head! I want a handheld too!

Well, now all that what you need to do, is pack all those optics and mirrors and cavities in an handheld host, possibly powered from a 18650 battery ..... ;) :D

Well...i believe they just wanted to do a pretty setup for the people that like pretty things like their setup...

They could have just goten a simple Farby-Perot resonator...have one like an Ion or He-Ne laser, with the crystal in the middle...and of course ud get more losses with that as ud have mirrors not for one wavelength, but the full spectrum...why not mirrors like the ones of an Ar-Kr laser?? Crystal in the middle and ur done...you could say the same if u saw a Nd:YAG pumping a KTP for double generation and even so we got our greenies^^

@Leodahsan- YEAH! Those guys also! where are them when u need them?? :p

These look promising. Soon, it may become mass produced so that our lead-free video projectors can be run off of just a huge array of blue diodes. "Look, Ma, no LEDs or phosphor disks!"

Well, that's my hope. Cool find! :san:

Firstly, it isn't very efficient. The very fact that it's got transitions in the visible is an achievement in itself, let alone at a non-poop mode and stable.

It's new, and it's certainly not something I've heard about till now.

And as it's still experimental, we should expect to see more and more progress as time goes on, along with more coverage.

On the other hand, it may be possible to get it running multiline, for a true semiconductor whitelight laser. Failing that, cheap pump sources are readily available, and in a few years, orange and red DPSS just may become easily obtainable.

Well, it's still a start (and, before get 1W 445nm diodes, also, there was a start with 1mW red laser diodes, after all, so we need just to have patience and look what they take out from it ;))

And yes, my mistake that at the start i had exchanged that setup for a double-z-folded cavity (the nightmare of any alignment technician, LOL), but now, i've followed better the beam paths, and i see that they just use a single beam (perhaps a 445nm unit) as "pump source" for all the 3 lines ..... so, separating the green unit from all the rest of the "demo system" can be very easy, at the end (assuming, ofcourse, that it does not need necessarily a cavity so long as in the demo unit)

It's three cavities, each lasing at a different wavelength. And yes, a double Z would be a pain to work with, both in terms of alignment and output beam specs.

At the very least, though, visible laser emission from a solid state medium that is capable of lasing CW (count ruby out here) is promising. And look how far we've come over the years- who would have expected $300 to get you 200+mW of stable 532, when, a little over 7-8 years ago, you'd only get 5mW of unstable, delicate green? Or the 445nm diodes?

This is promising, and it's only a matter of time before it's fully exploited.

Well...Pr3+ is a Rare-earth element as Nd3+...and u can pulse Nd and u can also get CW...our greenies are Nd, or am i wrong??...ive read a bit about it and the 482 line is a quasi-tri level lasing scheme...

And i think they are obtaining an efficiency of 18%...which isnt that much...but lets say u pump it with 4W, u still get around 800mW...of multiline ^^

I think they still got to develop the right host material for the doping...and maybe also a 2nd doping for a different type of upconverting (i dont know if they are actually doin it...i think in fasers they use Yb for the upconversion...)
