About Magenta Beam

Hi guys!

I'm new to these forums so I say hi before I make my post.

I want to set up a laser with a pink/magenta beam, and I have a few questions which I think was not addressed in other threads.

So to make such a beam I have to combine red with either blue (445-450 nm) or violet (405 nm) at dichroic mirrors. Most people in the forums say they used violet. But what sort of difference does it make if I use blue instead of violet?
I don’t have either the blue or violet modules to try it out myself, so that’s why I’m asking to know what kind of difference it would make to the resultant beam...

Also, don’t we have to mix red and blue/violet in a specific ratio (more red than blue/violet)? Do we need the two modules to have the same optical output power?

From my searching/asking people have told me X 2 red.

For example 100mw (405,405) you need 200mw red.........

I'd go with blue. Violet is not as visible to the eyes as blue.

But when combining red with blue, the 405 and 660 would both be single-mode and therefor yeild better results than 445 since they both have the same beam-specs.

Well noted and yes you will need 100mW 405 and about 200mW 660 red

Couldn't you go with 40mW red and 20mW violet? Do we really need high powers for this? Because that seems like too much heat if you want it to operate in cw mode for a long time.

um violet IMO is less visible than red

IMO, 405nm makes a pretty damn amazing magenta colour when mixed with red!

From my reading of others experiments, the 405nm, though not as bright, does make a nicer color of magenta.

Really you can get magenta from 445nm(it is blue after all) but like LaZerZ said they both the 405nm and 660nm have similar beam specs which seems to make a difference in combining the two.
