I know someone who would like an 808nm IR laser. My dad told me that IR light doesn't focus the same through glass as visible light does. If that's true, where could I get a collimating lens for 808nm light? If he's wrong (more or less), then will a standard Aixiz Acrylic lens do the trick?

I think he's thinking of 10,600nm, which is IR, but it's the common CO2 wavelength, and that far into the IR end of the spectrum, everything but a few materials are opaque and absorb the wavelength, making it able to burn just about anything, even glass, these use ZnSe optics. Unless he's thinking of a multimode diode, which would produce a line, and then you'd need the diode to have an FAC and use a prism set to get a less line-like dot. Short of a spatial filter, I don't think anything will produce a round beam from a multimode diode. Hope it helps. Oh, a regular lens can be used, it's just going to have large divergence and be a line.

I'v been on kind of the same look-out right now.....Dont mean to hijack the thread, but would the Aixiz red glass lens work for the 1000mW 808nm diode? I would guess these might collimate into a fine enough point to push though DPSS crystals?

For DPSS, most pointers use a 500mW diode with the face almost touching the crystal face. For a 1W pump you would want a C-Mount diode with an FAC. The 500mW is kind of the max for single mode operation. A single element lens won't do too much to correct the rectangular beam of a multimode diode.

I have been looking at the c-mount 1w+ but have seen 1w 9mm or 5.6mm(not sure which) closed can diodes...I guess these would need beam correction and collimation to pump through the crystals as well? I would like to push more watts through, which means C-mount...but move into higher drivers, harder to find c-mount mounts w/heatsink or TEC. I was thinking, for start at least, a 1w press-fit diode.
For Bearded_Galaxy, I have seen many good set-ups on ebay and through O-like that carry low power to high power, pre-made pointers and lab style IR.
