808nm Case/Housing with len? Urgent!!

Couple questions,

1. where can i find cheap housing or cases with lens for 9mm 808nm laser diodes around 500mw to 1W? Something similar to the axiz case that is suitable for 9mm 808nm would be great.

2. Is acrylic or glass len transparent to 808nm wavelength? If so, how is that even possible since 808nm is basically heat waves right? I don't see how heat waves can go thru any material. any enlightment would be well appreciated.

3. What about drivers? I've been using rCKSTR, but it doesn't deliver enough current. Any other cheap solutions?

The "heatwaves not going through any material" doesn't really apply to near IR 808nm.
It's an issue when you get to the far IR wavelength of CO2 lasers.

Yes thank you that is exactly what i'm looking for. Any idea for a cheap 1W compatible driver? Lack of quality is not problem, i'm kinda low on budget anyways.

The driver depends totally on the kind of batteries you are using.
Since IR diodes have a very low forward voltage, around 2.2V IIRC, you don't need
a boost driver in most cases.
Remember that IR diodes are case positive, so if you are planning to use the host as
the current path for positive, you will need a negative regulator.

So a LM317 circuit will only work if you isolate the diode from the case or if you're
case isn't connected to the power source at all.

Is this going to be a handheld pointer or something else?

Yes this will be handheld so i'll need a integrated driver. I won't be using the case as positive due to lack of compatibility.

So you'll keep the case neutral/isolated from current and run extra wires?
Because otherwise you'd likely have a heat problem, if you have to isolate the diode/module from the host.

You could use any linear driver then I guess, like the one jib77 is selling.
Or make your own LM317 based.

Or, you could use any driver from a high powered greenie, those are for IR diodes after all
and they are negative side regulators, so you could even use the host as the positive
path. I wouldn't know where to get one though, short of cannibalizing a green pointer.

Well the case would still be connected and therefore positive, but it wouldn't be isolated from the driver or battery source. And yes i will run a extra wire from the two terminals to the driver.

Could you post me the links to those drivers you are speaking of.

well i dont know if you have a Fry's electronics around your area, but in my town Fry's sells an NTE956 which is an exactly like an lm317, but they also have an NTE957 which is the negative version of that regulator. Everything is the same, 1.25V adjust pin, 2.5V voltage overhead, 1.5A minimum current throughout voltage range. Only thing is this sucker regulates over the negative side so you can use the case as positive and just run a wire from the regulator to the negative pin. if you need it i can send you 1-2 for 5 bucks each shipped in 48 States USA.
