10mW 589nm vs. 3mW 594nm

I recently received my shiny new CNI GLP-589 (Review Soon) and decided I would take a few pictures tonight. I have wanted to compare the wavelengths side by side to see if there was a noticeable difference for some time. The GLP-589 averages 10-13mW and peaks at 16mW. I won't know what the GLP-594 is putting out until I buy an LPM, though I'm guessing 2-3mW.

The camera I'm using is a point and shoot Sony DSC-P10 that was purchased way back in like like 2005 and doesn't give me much control over photos. I only get about a 2-3 second exposure so I lit a few matches to help me out. I only took a few tonight however this thread will be updated every now and then with new shots as well as an update on the power of the GLP-594.

Im not sure how many of you have seen both wavelength's side by side, but over the past few days Iv'e compared them quite a bit and IMO there is a noticeable difference in color despite being so close in the spectrum. Though the difference in power could effect how my eyes and the camera perceive them.

This rainbow shot shows a huge difference between the two wavelengths, I would love to see how 635nm fits in.

I know a lot of people talk about these yellow pointers and I figured you guys might want to see them side by side. I thought I would sell the 594nm after buying the 589nm but now I'm not so sure.. What do you guys think?

Updates Soon..

i voted 589nm
based on price and stability

Yeah you definitely get more power for your money with 589nm. As far as stability go's the GLP-594 has been great.. Iv'e read about the various issues but haven't experienced any myself.

You don't get more inexpensive, and stable than a 2mw HeNe at 594.1

;)

Ah yes a friend of mine had one a while ago( not to sure if it was 594.1, was yellow though )

surely was a fine piece of laser engineering, absolute perfect dot, stable as hell and a really nice thin beam!

to bad we cant stuff those tubes in a handheld :p would be epic...

o and to be honest i DO like the color of 594 more then 589, its more pleasant to look at

I agree with Meatball here. Nothing beats the stability of my 4mW 594nm HeNe. And it only costed me $200. These were all factors when I purchased it last year, and for me, the decision was one-sided.

Dude, you've got to fix your text color. It is impossible to read on some forum themes, and from a smartphone you can't even do the cursor selection trick to figure it out.

Please, sick to default colors for text ;)

LOL my bad. The only two colors I used was yellow and orange for the title header, Other than that everything is white..

Fixed.

Lol, white is the problem ;)

A lot of people have the forum set to a white background. Hence the need to use a default font color that will be visible on all themes.

Oh okay. I have always used the default grey theme.. Didn't know it was possible to change it either. Anyways I deleted the "white" from the text, it always appears white on mine so it looks no different to me, but can you see it now?

Sweet! I think you should keep them both.
A 594nm pointer is even more uncommon than the 589s.

I'm glad you are enjoying the 589, though. It is pretty bright, isn't it? And the divergence is awesome, too.
