Yes. And both are pretty orange next to copper vapor yellow. (~578nm) 588.6nm is goldenrod colored. It still has some orange in it if you look at the beam naturally, without fog. The intensity bleaches the color out. 593.5 is the dpss replacement for 594.1nm and it is definitely orange. It's not yellow, it's not even part of the yellow spectrum. (~565-590nm) likewise 568nm is yellow to the eye too, but it technically has quite a bit of green in it.

when will the prices on 589nm go down ?

It won't be anytime soon. I think the only way 589nm pointers/handhelds will drop in price is if either:
1) There is a higher demand for 589nm lasers
2) A cheaper, & more efficient process is found to produce 589nm laser light which would be profitable for companies

Just my $0.02 :)

Pretty much sums it up, and neither are likely. even a basic red is expensive if you get a truly good quality one. the mass produced ones don't often have to be perfect so they're far cheaper. but they only reason they're cheap is because they're in everything, which overcomes the cost of their production. vs something very specific, like one of my wave-locked 30mW 675, 680, and 690 red diodes, which are $50-$100+

Yellow's only use is in high powered telescopes for alignment and guiding commercially @ about 6W. and in some science uses, but overall, its like orange 612. 561 is also easy to make, but it's only used in the medical field mostly, so between the potential buyer, and its limited use, it's used very little, so the price is pretty high.

That sucks... as it is now i can understand why demand is low the prices for them.

I am responding to a STICKY thread, it is old, but it is right near the top of the section. I was negged for "necro" posting a sticky thread before, so now I am going to put this out in my post first, they had not realized it was a sticky thread when negging me, but too late.

OK folks, here is what I thought interesting to add to the thread.... You too can own a high power 500mw 589 laser! Affordable too! If you have money to burn:

With the GBP exchange rate as bad as it is at the moment, I'll have to pass :p if we were 2:1 like in the good days I'd maybe have taken a punt ;)

I have a rigel hv 589mn and the color is really beautiful, almost yellowish. My mother took the warning sticker off, because i left them in central america and she brought them to the usa for me, bad mistake, because i like my laser complete with the warning sticker, also did that with my aquarius 5. I might sell them in the future and rebuy them again with the warning stickers, or probably buy them both used if they are ever put on sale here, with the warning sticker of course.

It would be easier if you ask laserglow for replacement stickers.
