Re: GUIDE: Which company should I buy from?

Something isn't right, I would guess.

PayPal and customs normally don't communicate at all.
How would customs even know if PayPal was used?

PayPal is not the shipper--Customs would notify the shipping company or the shipping company would know it was held by customs-- but...

I was suspicious as well. All of his excuses started to get tiring. Also, when he sent me a copy of the email from PayPal, it was full of grammatical errors. Something is up.

Edit: if this has to be escalated to a claim what should be my argument? It was labeled as "orange led pen light" and it will be hard to justify paying $350 for it.

Not sure what you do and don't have to say----would guess if you paid via PayPal $350 they can verify that---no need to justify it---that is what you paid. If you used a credit card via PayPal I would dispute that charge with the credit card company ASAP also.
You never received anything is the point--the seller will have to prove he shipped it and that you received it.

Update: The package will go through, apparently. Once he provides paperwork to customs proving it is <5mW, they will send it along.

Will be interesting to see what happens. I hope it is true. Did he give you any evidence that is is true i.e. a copy of anything from Australia customs that says that? What does he have that he is going give Australia Custom to 'prove" that it is <5mW?

I don't know all the details of what Australia customs does or doesn't do with exports or how the guy came to have it but the below make me wonder what's up with the seller given all the BS he has given you:
"2008 in Australia, a number of coordinated attacks take place involving high-powered laser pointers being pointed at the cockpit of commercial aircraft - Australian Laser law will never be the same.
According to federal law in Australia, any hand-held, battery operated laser with a power emmission above 1mW is considered a dangerous weapon, and written consent must be obtained prior to possessing/importing such a laser pointer. However, according to an Australian Customs fact sheet, laser diodes, modules and other laser equipment above 1mW is legal to import."

Why would they care if it's leaving the country? They must know that such things existed before the laws changed. I doubt they required all of them to be turned in.

I don't know, I was thinking the same thing. I suppose they would not want any "weapons" on their planes. :undecided:

Subbing.

Hopefully there will be a somewhat straightforward explanation for this.

That's really cool! Maybe that sort of thing isn't that rare after all, we just don't see it often because we're not looking for it...

I just checked, and the weaker of my two Gearbest 532s appears to be emitting at 3 lines as well. Of course, I don't have a spectrometer to check.

I just got my multimeter today, and the laser's current draw is only 1.7A, unusually low for a Spartan 589! Based on my calculations, it's around 2.5% efficient, considering the whole process. This is very high for a yellow!

That's about where mine is too. mine's about 1760mA ish after a about 20s of run time. most of them are usually 1.7-2A range depending on age.
