505nm and 480nm diode RESULTS

That photo looks about right to me, Dr.Laser. Do you need any of these diodes pressed into modules? I have none currently as I used all I had on the ones ZRaffleticket sent me. I'd have to order more if you do.

This is the best I can get with my camera but still not 100% accurate.

Actually I'd prefer them to be unpressed, it will save you some money and time.

I get the impression that these are Preliminary product, and were probably supposed to be trashed, and found their way into surplus. :)

I don't know what types of spectrometer everyone is using, but keep in mind instrument error as you work. I'll see if I can buy a few 505s and put them on my HRS.

That was my thought about the ones we got earlier, also it's interesting that newgazer is listing them as manufacturer refurbished.

I know the photo isn't the same as seeing it in person, but the difference between these and the 532nm looked pretty good for a photo. I'm glad you don't want them pressed as i would have to order new ones, but I won't be able to push them as hard as I would if they were pressed. Because of that, you'll get the low end of the spectrum on the center wavelength of these diodes. For 505nm diodes that is not too bad as you don't want them to shift to a higher WL.

These diodes aren't supposed to be pushed. After all we are hunting for WL here. Knowing the wavelength at threshold is enough as it seems to shift ~1nm when pushed.

is there a camera that exists that can actually capture and display colors as they appear in person? i would pay big money for one of those :thinking:

Oh,I definitely get that. I am still going to get 100 mW out of mine as it is still under 503nm at first. I'm sure the longer it's on the more it will shift upwards. Still want to have a nice visible beam. :wave:

Edit: since no two people see things exactly the same way, there is no camera I'm aware of that will make it look the same to everyone in a picture.

Well there's also no screens that can show how they look in person. Some screens have more range than others, but they're still stuck being some combo of 0-255 parts red, 0-255 parts green, and 0-255 parts blue.

Some cameras with the cyan cell (instead of another green) tend to pick up colors better... look for rhd's 556nm review here, or arynthas 561nm. One of those explains the camera thing. Id share if I weren't on my phone

Got my 477nm diode into a build before I head off to sleep. Absolutely stunning. Yet to fire up my 473nm to compare but if memory serves correct, it does seem different. Will set up my 473nm labby tomorrow night and try my best with my available tools to get a few comparison images. Never thought I would have this color in something that is happy to run on ni-mh aaa's. Forgot to say, I'm running mine at a conservative 200mA with a three element lens. Will meter it tomorrow at some point and edit my signature accordingly.

Not sure if I got a high wavelength freak or what but my god this diode is to die for,
My iPhone 7+ takes some decent pics but even it cannot show the green tint and cyan colour that I am seeing, in person the colour I'm seeing is very close to that diode pics Jordan had of the 500nm diode. acqamarineish is a better way to describe it, This is by far my favourite diode know, And I'll be buying many more before there gone,

Not a bad little burner too, man I love this colour !

Stunning wavelength.. Lucky for me I got one of these diodes in a module just before Jordan's stock dried up :p
