Still wondering if the glare off the window is a different color between them. THAT would definitely rule out these being the same diode of different batches. Maybe one is a more "revised" version of the other to come closer to a target wavelength however I still suspect two different but similar diodes in play here. Didn't we have a blue that was seemingly given a completely new model number over nothing more than how they were binned when tested on the assembly line? Just seems very off to me to have separate batches come on with significantly different production numbers spectro'ing in two distinct areas of the green spectrum. Until dis-proven, I'm going to assume the one batch is 505 and the other is 510. Those micro-etched codes remind me of car VIN's where all but the last 5 numbers are the model info and the last 5 are the ID# of that exact car. Or in this case, model number and production run?

Just to put this to rest, I looked at all the green diodes I have and they all have a red glare off of the window. Don't know what that proves as so does the blue diodes. Same red glare.

Weird there is a huge difference between the glare on my green diodes and my blue. The blue has a golden glare wile the green have a red.

You could have put it to rest a while ago!

I feel recently this forum has been slowing down.. less and less builders showing up. I'm glad these new diodes have woken this place up a bit... even if the results have been not as great as expected!! I ordered a 505 from dtr and can't wait to go through by build box to find a host and driver.

Hi 10,
I wouldn't say slowing down, most of the members here are putting out quite well. I myself built 5 builds the last month but did post any. They are all on my sales thread. Hey give me 20 min to show you a 505nm diode build with a 3E,G2 and 2E lens for power difference. Nano set to 275mA..

to be honest when i build something for my personal use i dont post my build here because everyone uses top of the line products which i personally cant afford to buy so im using cheaper parts and less beautifull parts although everything works as intented but i dont feel confortable to post it here :)

I wouldn't worry about expensive or cheap parts, everyone has there own style and ideas and the more builds to look at the better after all this is Laser Pointer Forum, some builds I've seen don't make any sense to me at all but that is my opinion and I try keep it to myself, it's still interesting seeing what others like and find appealing, we need more build threads.

Hi BBB,
And i did just that i did a build thread on the two diodes was a great time doing this with all the info we accumulated here since these came about.

I've got a 501B host I've had in my stock for years. I'm planning on putting that 477nm diode in it. They don't get much cheaper than that. :D

maybe i'll post my nubm08 build because i want to give the idea to the rest of the people that want to keep the gball and also have focusable output. i have to thanks RedCowboy for the idea about the reverse engineering on the output :)

Hi Paul.
501B's are really nice for smaller builds, if you have a color preference i have many in different colors. Let me know and i can send you a few of them buddy. After all the hard work and accumulation of info you deserve it.

The only empty one I have left is purple. Not my first pick for a color, but I figure it'll do. If you have some 501Bs in different colors, I'd be happy to get my hands on one. Provided it isn't too expensive. I've used them in the past for anything up to 500 mW. Some have actually put M140 in them at 2+ watts. I did an M140 for Vortish a few years ago, but limited the power to around 1.5 watts. It was the only host he sent for the build. I would never use one for powers above 500 mW for myself, though.
