I'm sort of surprised of the lack of interest on my find about yellow diodes.

I think people being concerend with high powered Blues need to maybe not think of it the way they do. If you don't want one, don't get one. And the ones responsible for harvesting, be responsible sellers, because there might be some that have responsible and good uses. I wouldn't be afraid to see someone like T_J, moh, Dave, Jerry, Jeff, Jay, Trevor, Benm, Garoq, and others with one. You can't say you aren't a little interested in seeing 4W+ of blue beam.

That being said, I would love to see these come to reality.

I'll admit, I'm a little interested.

Oh just go visit them already, and don't you even dare come back without both one
green and one yellow laser diode.:eg:

This is exciting stuff for sure, but when will it be mass produced <--> affordable
for us poor schmucks?
Actually, where would one even need a yellow laser diode?
You don't need one for display technology, not even in those pico projectors.

I think a high power yellow diode would be interesting enough, it's just not my favorite color. That could change once I see one, though.

Well the primary colors are blue, red, and yellow. So you can see they might be toying with the idea of a yellow diode. To me it looks like they are going with the blue, and shelved the yellow. Maybe not, who knows?

I'd love to have a yellow laser.

Well in the theory the better efficient diodes could allow for more of them and still using less power. As a result they could easily add yellow and make a projector with a better and more real color balance. I'm sure it will happen one day.

That's the thing we can't tell for certain since any real info on it is probably a closely guarded trade secret. Think of it this way if they do know of a way to make them reasonably i.e not much more than green diodes cost then we'll probably see them in 5-10 years in the future generations of projectors that have a wider color balance.

LOL yeah when you're mixing paint, but not when mixing light.
Subtractice vs additive mixing....

Ha, yeah, you want green when using light because it is in the middle of the spectrum. I have heard though that sometimes a yellow light source can improve vibrance over the traditional RGB.

Doesn't Sharp use that technology in some of their TVs?

Here is the technology, as it says though, there is no yellow color channel.. Its in the article, although small it gives you the info you need. :)

Ok guys I will take a trip to Soraa tomorrow afternoon. I will see what kind of info they can give me and if samples are possible. I'll let you know the good/bad news sometime tomorrow evening.
